Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

How do we get the CWA Union

How do the NY Verizon Wireless Field techs get the union!

Many want to join things are just getting rediculous.

Come on Verizon! Offer 3 weeks for every year worked and 1 year of benefits for the transition. Not the 45 weeks offerd in August for front line in stores overstaffed. Most would jump.

"A union contract in my opinion could/would guarantee an employee 40 hours." - When the store closes there are no "guarantee's" id–t! And with COVID there are no "guarantee's" Those of us that work in a store know this to be true. Union = hoodwinked

What is going on here is UNION sales pitch, a pack of lies. I work in a store that is not unionize, however I have a good friend that works in one of the rare union stores (there are only a hand full of them) and they have the same deal as us. Their hours are cut, just like us as staffing levels are needed. No one in the workforce, union or non union is guaranteed work and I am not even talking about COVID closures... It's hard to guarantee 40 hours of work when the store front is closed. And when the store opens and they city says, only 25% capacity is allowed in the store, you can't have all those workers in the store serving 1 or two customers that might walk in the door.

Ok I will bite. If a unionized store is under contract like you all seem to agree on then what exactly are they under contract for ? I worked for a grocery store back in the 1990’s and we had a union. We had a contract every 4 years that locked us in to pay and benefits for those 4 years. I personally didn’t care at the time if we had one or not because I was part time. In regards to Verizon retail going union it makes perfect sense now. There is definitely an initiative to move 40 hour work weeks to 32. A union contract in my opinion could/would guarantee an employee 40 hours. Because of this I guarantee Verizon will offer VSP’s to all 40 hour work week reps within a year or so. They will rely on attrition for the most part but no doubt those VSP’s are a coming.

A: Their lips are moving.

@5jrs+17Ulfj5H You have no clue what you are talking about TRUST ME literally no clue. Union employees have a grievance and arbitration clause which has saved jobs for employees facts which is real news. Your post on the other hand is FAKE NEWS.

@5rzo+17Ulfj5H you are incorrect or just lying to try and organize people. "The few Verizon retail stores that are unionized are under contract." That is the only accurate thing you said. Hourly pay is not secured, in fact it can and has changed. It is the same as non-union pay. Number of hours per week isn't secure either, Verizon could make everyone part time if they wanted to. All the other benefits you mentioned PTO, Medical Dental etc are all the same as non-union and can change at any time. The union promised security and delivered none of it. "Secure...secure...secure..." nope, nope, nope, the only thing that is secure is that the union gets paid out of every employees paycheck no matter what. The union is secure while the employees were left with basically what everyone else has. Laughable. You are fake news.

Another stupid union shill posting here again! Ever heard of COVID mo–n? There is not such thing as "secured guaranteed number of hours scheduled per week" Verizon is about read to close stores for 4 to 6 weeks and the workers in those stores union or not will not get "secured guaranteed number of hours scheduled per week"

SO MANY STUPID PEOPLE POSTING HERE!

@4flq+17Ulfj5H You are correct in what the unions can’t change however you never mentioned what they did do. The few Verizon retail stores that are unionized are under contract. The contracts include: secured hourly pay, secured guaranteed number of hours scheduled per week, secured benefits such as PTO , Medical & dental etc. These are the most important things any employee would want to feel comfortable knowing a company could not change under a contract.

I can give you more info right now. You give 2% ish of your pay and they get you nothing more than other stores. Remember you already have a few union stores in VZW. Physical proof is there already. It's a business for unions. They operate and get paid off of your dues. Can promise whatever want and never have to deliver. 100% truth. COVID has made it hard for everyone. They can't change your commissions, schedules, attire, systems or etc.....

@3gph+17Ulfj5H When under a union contract a major change of going from 40 hour work week to 32 would never happen. It is called a contract for a reason. The problem with starting a union with VZW retail is that each store is its own entity. It would take a number of stores simultaneously voting for a union to have much impact. Most of the stores that unionized in the last several years have closed. It’s a battle that will never be won.

One person posting over and over pretending to be different people that want union. Can tell union people by the way they explain things.

Also VZW not making anyone go to 32 hours and second union couldn't prevent if did, which not.

Make promises they cannot keep.

Lol how much does VZW pay these trolls to downplay the union?

I was a manger in VZW retail for over 10 years and we got sent to anti union meetings every couple years. This is shameful for those that want the union

I for one drank the kool aid while I was there because I'd be damned if I said I wanted it.

The union would have been great for the actual workers, the managers would have less say and they couldn't just pull sh– out of their a–!

Glad I changed positions in the company however everyone still fears their job could be cut under Hans administration.

I support these people that want the union, it's just going to be a hard battle.

I am a Verizon Solutions Specialist( rep) and was never a believer in unions until Verizon took advantage of Covid to make drastic changes in our job. Going forward now we have to worry about if we will be cut from 40-32 hours and what benefits will be lost or reduced because of it. If a union was in place we would have a contract and changes couldn’t be done on the fly with little to no notice. Everyone I have talked to in our store wants to have job security but doesn’t know how to go about looking into union representation without retaliation.

FACT - Unions are for people too stupid and brain vapor-locked to think for themselves. These union workers have to be told by the union what to do at work. There is a REASON unions only represent about 11% of the workforce in the USA! If unions were so damn good then why only 11% or so representation? Unions are not needed anymore.

ATT Union - tracking their vehicles, ticketing systems that sends techs over 150 miles from their home base. Managers that don't care at all, getting hope at 9:00 PM each day. Getting written up for idling the vehicle on a hot day! Yes, CWA at ATT is GREAT! I worked at ATT wireless for years and it was horrible.

I believe like others this thread, this string was started by a paid to post union member and for the most part the comments are by the same union poster as the OP poster to stir the pot.

Former Wireless Tech here. The main problem I saw was the Managers were always completely overridden by Implementation, Project Management, RF Engineering, Systems Performance, you name it. The Managers were not able to push back and prioritize their Technicians time. So you had a lot of projects that would pop on the respective spread sheets all at once, but not enough help in the field to accomplish a timely completion without letting normal duties pile up and lots of frustrations being shared on conference calls. Too many Techs getting home at 6:00pm only to have to go out again and work that night at 11pm. Really no support available to Techs who are all of the sudden thrown into very difficult technical situations such as DU card upgrades, with outdoor cabinets in bad weather and then last minute software changes by the vendor making what could of been a 1 hour job now an all nighter. And then there is fiber cabling problems left by an over worked tower crew. And we are assuming that there is no Java script problems while trying to integrate a new piece of equipment or a site. And that is just scratching the surface. The Admin tasks Field Techs have to do keep them on their laptops and not out in the field. If Verizon can do something to help correct these problems, Field Techs wouldn't be looking towards unions.

This thread is a union troll thread! Union thugs pushing there agenda! And I don't believe posters like Post ID: @2far+17Ulfj5H who claims that are a VZW field tech. This is BS! After 18 years with VZW and working in 4 different markets I have never heard a single VZW wanting to be part of a union. There reason there is no union in VZW is because the people that work here hate them.

So go pound sand you Union thugs pushing your crud here, go back over to the other VZ site where you belong!

New England Vzw field tech here ... Just was forwarded this link from a colleague.

I agree we do need some change. Managers and directors always this time of the year talking fear about the union.

Well my previous gig had a union and it was worth it, only reason I switched 8 years ago was the move I made for the family.

I would go union in a heartbeat.

I for 1 will be asking my co workers to join if I can get the info

Don't waste your time or money. Wireless union represented employees actually have it worked than you do. Don't let the trolls/highly paid union organizers on this site fool you. They are desperate to dip into your wallets. Network techs and Brooklyn retail employees are not better off. Layoffs still happen, stores close, compensation changes, gps tracking happens, management still runs the show they are just lighter in the wallet and the CWA laughs all the way to the bank.

So if they move reps from full-time to part time next year, there are many state and federal laws they have to adhere too. They would have to offer severence to the people that don't want to go part time! This will be a special situation effecting many employees lives. So the severence should be 3 weeks for every year worked. 1 year of benefits for the transition not up to 45 weeks offered in August for the overstaffed stores. So they just can't go in and say you're part time thats only a scenario for business going out of business in the winding down period.

Yup have us work side by side with contractors that are traveling all over multiple states.

Get those alarms hooked up

Make sure you make an iop work task for everything you do.

Let's time everything and compare you to your peers.

And...

Don't worry we are now going to track your gps on your phone that you have to give conscent to inorder to use the app to do your work. In addition to your work vehicle that we already do.

Field tech here in New England.

Been here for 15 years+

Now is the time. We've had enough of the bullsh*t

We are now hounded if we don't do the Pulse surveys. They just want dirt on who says what. Well sorry I've help create and maintain this network for years, top performance gets you nothing. Management does nothing but takes calls from home time to downsize the management

My attitude is pay me to leave. Here comes the winter find someone who's willing to take the freeze and do the job.

No promotion in over 7 years because I'm not a kiss a–, aka manager s— up, yet my knowledge is needed everywhere.

Some stores are union represented and still going through all the same things. They haven't changed a thing for them. Same as all other stores. In the past actually lost some advantages. Pay unions fees for nothing. Lol. Know tht facts.

First of all, talking from “Facts”, vzw does have a Union for their wireline employees. Back in the year 2016, when LoMac used to b the CEO, the Union did fight for their rights & grievances and got then a strong contract. There was an initiation done for the respective in wireless side some time back but everyone just acted stupid & were busy drinking VZ cool aid. Its still possible we just need to stand together.
