Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

LOA

I have been hoping for a surplus in my group but don’t think that’s going to happen. I need to get out for my mental state but am worried about getting another job with covid and economy.

Is there any way I can take time off work to THINK about next steps? Sadly my day typically involves 10-12 hours of working and barely time to breathe. Short term disability (not sure I could get doc note), LOA? Hoping some long timers can make some recommendations based on what they’ve seen others do? I came from acquisition so not sure how to work system.

Can you get paid or a portion of paycheck if you take leave?

I just took a stress leave. You go to your doctor and tell them what you’re going through and they write you out for usually a month.

I was told LOA is only granted for military in my neck of the woods. Sounds like you're "management" with those hours. I'm sure it's different for bargained. As such, I incurred a "point" for getting off 1 1/2 hours early to go to the Emergency Room. I submitted everything required to Leavelink after and they just kept rejecting it for bogus reasons. They said I was missing several things that were clearly included. I called HR to complain and they said "Give it up and take the point." They said that department was taken over by AT&T with far fewer workers than Sedgewick and they are doing a horrible job. Imagine that! We apparently have to plan emergencies and illnesses and apply for our personal time beforehand or get "points".

take leave, others do it. I know a guy in AZ who's take LOA twice in the last 2 years and no one has questioned it!

There is no X - Ray or MRI to prove a mental health issue, ask them to prove it :)

Unless you have no choice, just stop working that many hours. That’s what I did. Used to be the top performer, now I just do bare min. No benefit in k–ling yourself. If you drop dead (we actually had this happen in the office), they will just dump your work on the next person, not backfill, and care less. I’ve seen it first had literally.

Take the LOA, they’ll just move a couple wire techs around. Don’t sweat it.

Here's the problem with it.

If your department approves your LOA, this tells HR that your group can do the work with at least one less member on the team.

Hence, the reason it is frowned upon to take a LOA is the fact that HR may come back after the fact and throw a surplus at your group. If you're not bottom seniority, it won't be your job that gets ruined.

Read that, you taking LOA can potentially put someone else's job on the line.

Don't be that guy.

At first when you said there was no surplus in your group I thought you were in Business Services, but then you said you worked a lot so I know you're not in Business Services...

The best thing you can do for your mental state is stop working 10-12 hours a day. You could work 24/7 and you wouldn't be any better off than the rest of us. You should listen to Stankey's words that "nobody is safe". They do not care about you. You need to jock up and take responsibility for your mental state because nobody will help you but you.

I know that Bargained for employees can take LOA for up to 30 days without affecting seniority. There is a form you can fill out via Leavelink, which will go to your supervisor for approval. I speak from experience!

Man up or just quit.
No wonder the company wants many "workers" gone.
Pathetic.
