Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

G55 by 2020

So how close are we to the G55 mark. Has anyone seen any changes at your work location that might be a good sign of more layoffs. So if we finally dodge the bullet from another round of layoffs are we safe after hitting G55. How many more layoffs is it going to be to hit that mark? Whats our biggest target location that they might be looking at anyone have a clue. Just wanting to look for another job since close at bottom on seniority. Mechanical dept. NP.

Yeah get rid of the upper echelon, I think that would get er down to 55. I can’t believe what these guys get paid. There is no way they are that good! Unbelievable I hope their CARMA catches up to them all real soon. Seriously sad what is going on at this company. I feel sorry for the costumers as well. Where I work a few big costumers are so fed up they are preparing their facilities to ship by truck. What a joke!

Here's what they could do. Get rid of everyone at Omaha HQ, close that building down, and transfer the non-executives to other locations that actually need leadership. Think about how much money would be saved every year by doing that. Omaha doesn't run this company, the boots on the ground do!

You could get rid of 50% of the higher up (and never know they’re gone) to get there

They will get to 55. The question is how many will lose their jobs in the process. Once they get to 55 a new goal will be set. Enough is never enough and they will always have a corporate goal of lower operating ratio/higher profits. It’s all about profits and stock price for the execs and board. They care nothing about customers, employees, or expanding this company.

Last I heard we were still over 59 by a little bit there is no way We can hit the 55% ratio ,Without cutting a minimum of 15% of the workforce.

If UP gets to their 55 goal. which I don't believe is attainable without increasing revenue, which with all cuts they won't have the resources. It will be at 55 for only a blip in time, shipping by railroads is not like you can change railroads in the blink of an eye or takes time, so losing customers won't so right away, not to mention your options are limited, it's like choosing the lesser of 2 evils. Eventually this will come back to bite UP, but by then it will be another regime's problem.

Any location that hasn’t seen multiple rounds of layoffs and/or one massive layoff is still on their radar. Even if they do cut more people it still probably won’t be enough, they will have to shut down a shop or two completely. Then they may see that number they’ve been so desperate to achieve. Kicker is once they get there they won’t stay there it’s not possible to maintain the company at that operating ratio there is a balance and it’s not at 55, not sure what that number really is either. Best bet is to keep looking for a job and if you manage to find one before you get cut take it and don’t look back your health, family, and friends will thank you
