I doubt there are many at Noble who have "deep tech knowledge". If all you know how to do is batch upload data and build nice queries, you're probably done.

Fake agile-> Fragile, that's what we call it in our team
It will be gone in 4 years

I prefer a managed service provider who gets things done fast

WRONG WRONG WRONG

When you let the user design the interface you end up with garbage interface. And then we spend the next 5 years doing enhancement after enhancement as they change their minds because they have no clue what they wanted in the first place . Computerizing a bad process simply makes the process go bad faster. Cases in point all Chevron' main IT functions

The issue with looking at the world as series of boxes (objects), is that its so easy , that is a very male way of organizing. Yes objectification works to some extent in the right place but when we agilize, win in any environment, cloud or whatever label they put on the object , what does this actually achieve> Managers love to do this. Its used to be called black boxing. The problem with this are varied, things like only seeing the surface , not the inside. The real problems are glossed over. No responsibility. "Just fix it", note the use of the word "it". We end up with little real design , no modelling. It's basically laziness. This is what Chevron has become. When an issue comes up , it will be fixed later. Later comes along and then most of the time the flaws are so bad, we have to start over. The object is rebranded "renamed" and the whole show starts over. Chevron is currently starting the next iteration of this.

There is nothing new under the sun, just the same old patterns of incompetence and repetition

10 years ago we used to have teams of dedicated SME's, then the contractors took over. Usually remote. It took at least 4-5 times as much time to fix and develop solution with them , even with overnight turnarounds ha what a joke., but hey they are a 3rd of the cost right. This is NOT increasing productivity at all. The managers pat themselves on the back as the size of their teams increases and they get those bonuses and jump from project to project leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.. Meanwhile efficiency drops. Roll forward to 2020 and now the numbers don't add up hey let's fire some more and add more contactors .Win in any environment baby, er NO that will NOT solve it. First it was accelerate downstream, more with less, now agile and digital , its all such a circus led by the same old clowns. It's been quite a show. and we get a front row seat watching it. I wonder what empty slogan they will come up with next year?

It seems it's all about Network Network Network...and who you know.

I just attended Q&A with our new IT Architects - not a single one that talked are qualified based on the "Job Family" requirements or what the industry standard is for architects that was sent out a few months ago by the ImagineIT team. Most of them had some type of "Program Manager" or "data related experience". None can really coach a technical Senior Software engineer on how do develop solution & technical designs. I expect the new group will depend on contractors or a few "doer" employee like before - to develop designs for them and they will continue to guide on a high level powerpoints and take credit

I prefer a managed service provider who gets things done fast, no questions asked. There's too many "Chevron Technical Experts" who talk to you like they know what they're doing, while trying to figure it out and not addressing the actual needs of the customer because they know better then you as the "Chevron Technical Expert"

You must be super technical, but here is a selection criteria based on we lead soft skills.

I worked for Chevron for over 25 years. In the last 10 to 15 years, my assessment of our IT department was not not great. It seemed to me they are too heavy with employees and the work they do was not high quality. Their delivery of services was subpar. While I think Chevron should retain an IT department with capable employees, it will do well by firing most of the personnel and go with an outside source for project work and maintenance.

Be willing to be outsourced as management is giddy about outsourcing IT jobs outside of the US.

Folks, we're getting reamed by contractors and managed services. Saying that they are ideal when we need to ramp up staff is a joke when we're downsizing. If their benefit is based upon the rapid turnaround then the problem is with our hiring and/or talent retainment process.

Oversight on billable hours is also weak, let's hope there's more progress in that area.

IT needs to clean house and get rid of the scammer team leads and managers who have no technical clue, no less knowledge. In 25+ career, have respected only two team leads. They were people you could go to for technical discussions and deep knowledge/help when needed. Team leads for the last 20 years have been clueless administrators of metrics and no value “work”...don’t even spend time on pumps—especially within ds&c IT. Hope they won’t just fill positions with warm clueless bodies. As a shareholder, have had enough of subsidizing the bank accounts of these clueless brown nosing “leads” who actually think they add value and “inspire” their teams. NOT!! Most don’t even have a clue when they are scammed by contractors. Approves work for 4 weeks when in reality it should take no more than a week if they had any technical knowledge at all to challenge the estimates. Ridiculous waste of money and why contractors love working for Chevron.

Deep Tech Knowledge , because they need some boy scouts who they never promote to take the fall for them, even though they never actually listen to what the techies say and overrule all their suggestions. This company has changed from an Engineering company in to a marketing scam , Chevron is finished. Eventually the whole house of card will come tumbling down this layoff is trying to cut deep into the scam by saving money on overheads, but its not going to work. The company is fundamentally flawed and the source of the cancer is at the top.

Have you noticed that Round 3 leaders keep saying that they are looking for "deep deep technical knowledge," but when asked for specifics, they say NOTHING? For software engineering, are we talking about certain languages, or maybe data structures, hash algorithms, what? They don't know anything so they cannot even give one example. How hypocritical that our leaders are holding others to a standard that they don't even meet themselves.

You don’t really need to know what you’re doing, just pretend, nobody knows who is doing what. Don’t forget to kiss your boss’s a** daily even though they sometimes aren’t technical and don’t know what their doing.
