How do you just up and quit in the middle of a pandemic? Seriously, how? I don't care if the new job you found is ideal for you - as soon as the virus intensifies for the second wave and everything slows down once again you have to know you're going to be the first one who is out on his/her a–. So where do you get the courage to just leave?

Some companies actually letting new hires work from home from day one during this pandemic. Even virtual on-boarding.

I wish they would offer a severance package, but it doesn’t look like anything will be coming anytime soon, unfortunately! Not EVERY organization was going to be affected like McFresh said. Apparently, where some areas of the business are shrinking or just going away, other areas are growing and expecting to become the a large source of revenue. It hasn’t yet come to fruition possibly due to Covid or not!
This company is a sinking ship get out while you can. If they offer you a severance take it and run!!!!
You'd be surprised how many other companies actually value their folks. I left T 80 days ago, and at my new place, they are actually expanding right now. Not everywhere is ran like T, which is an utter sh–show. T is a circus.
Quitting is not smart. Waiting on a severance with the option for unemployment (if needed) is what I’d recommend.
Second wave and another shutdown is fake news...
The way to do it is to be prepared and confident in your abilities. T is really really bad. Countless stories from current and former workers back up that assertion. I was part of T and saw first hand what was happening 5-10 years ago. So on T's dime I received my degree. I was prepared. I wanted to continue with T but they had other plans. No worries I was confident in my abilities. I rode it out got my severance and had a new career at a much more prominent place doubling my salary about two weeks after I departed. I will gladly do that again if I must because I prepared and am confident in my abilities.
Some are retiring, with health benefits.

second wave ok - but to your question - doesn't that speak volumes to how sick of environment att has created for its employees? not every company goes by seniority when laying off people. look at att they will gladly lay off someone 55 with a pension versus hiring someone new. so time to rethink your way of thinking. some people would rather not be in the environment that att has created and continues to live in and looks like it will never change. some people also want to gain knowledge and learn new stuff no matter how old they are than be brushed aside as old and given bs tasks that no one else wants just because they are part of the friends and family. this is all coming from a management point of view and cannot speak of the union where seniority may be the determining factor. me personally I left after 18 years in my 50's because they moved me out of cutting edge stuff because I guess I was getting close to 55 and considered old but now I am doing real cloud stuff with kubernetes, containers, and building systems for the future. att took all the cutting edge stuff away from me and gave it to new hires because supposedly I was old and out of touch or maybe because I had a pension. att needs new management period and needs to learn how they operate but they will never change because they are always right and never make mistakes. lol
