Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

Ethics - can we vs should we

So I was completing my required on-line ethics training. One entire segment was devoted to recognizing the can vs should. So you have to wonder if the people making these decisions also took this training. Can you do mass layoffs during a global pandemic? Yes .....Should you? Did they even consider the should you?

Should you drag this out with no information at all passed down? I’ve had meetings with my dept, several depts together and my entire town hall meeting with the entire area and not once was any lay-off flow down discussed and no time was left for Q&A. My only source of information is this website.

I find it very insulting. We are all aviation professionals. We have dedicated our lifes to aviation safety . And most of us have gone well above and beyond for the company and its constant deadlines, goals and success. I think many will be left with a bad taste in their mouths for how this was handled.

That is the way Pratt functions. They are always afraid of sabotage, or work place violence. That is why they like to ambush people that are getting layoff the same day is happening.

I expected layoffs to be based on current conditions, I think we’ve all seen that coming. However, doing wide scale changes based on the merger could have been done differently or put off for a period of time to lessen the impact.

Well, the government has convinced everyone they're all going to die and flying is unsafe, so I'm not exactly sure what you expected to happen.
