Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Why did HCL acquire 2nd Level in the first place?

Not really related to layoffs, per se, so if this thread gets deleted I won't question as to why it happened. But this is moreso a discussion thread than anything else.

Anyone who has been working at either Xerox location in Saint John for a hot minute already knows what the deal was a year and a half ago: basically every non-tech support team (XSAT, Canadian field support, asset coordinators) ended up getting offshored to HCL, blah blah blah, you know the deal. However when this was publicly announced, we were really only made privy to the fact that it was the non-tech support teams that got rebadged to HCL. So when I found out that 2nd Level ended up becoming HCL, that struck me as unbelievable. In fact, nobody believed me when I told them that it happened. They're tech support, what would HCL have needed with them in the first place?

So I have a question for y'all, especially those who have worked in any of the Xerox Saint John locations: does anyone have any theories as to why all second level teams would've gotten rebadged? Yeah, you could say "because corporate wants to save as much money as they can", but I almost feel like there may be a bit more to it than that.

I think its just simple numbers. Its my understanding that each organization had a percent of people they had to put forward. So teams that had people doing the same thing were the obvious choice for VPs to meet their numbers.

For our org we had to do a walk through with wipro on what we do and submit results/process documentation for them to decide what they wanted to bid on. Something happened that caused the wipro deal to fall through....or more likely HCL threw in a bid and undercut them. But there was no walk through with HCL.

When the rebadge happened my HCL manager told me they blindly accepted all the work without knowing what it was and now they are just sorting through it to see what they can do.

My first memories was seeing XIM utilize HCL services in 2008-9. XRX people involved with HCL, spent at least 80% of their time in meetings, on calls trying to resolve issues and holding their (HCL) hands. Fast forward to 2018-19, and genius consultant Icahn and his minions hired ($$$$) brought HCL back and gave them even more business to mismanage. You just can’t fix stupid.

There are so many people on this board that have been living in some kind of bubble. To suggest HCL rebadge of 2nd level is some surprise vs clerical...Xerox has moved hundreds of Software developers and code writers off from XRX to HCL — 5-10 yrs and hundreds of people. Sure, this has been USA focused because it’s easier politically, legally, etc.

It’s laughable to read people’s new found awareness. How smart is it to move your software engineering to another firm? Software and engineers are the lifeblood of Google, Apple, etc. xerox chose instead to move this skill to another firm, yrs ago.

Y’all should cry less about the clerk that takes and processes an order or service dispatcher...a firm that fires all its development engineers and contracts them with HCL? Thats been ongoing every year for 5-10 yrs. How do you invent anything without inventer?

Engineering & IT outsourcing to HCL has been happening for around 10 years. The admin stuff is the new piece. In the past that was just “right-shored” to our new Guatemalan & Filipino co-workers.

Because 2nd level was treated as a call center. HCL believed they could handle call center activity. These folks are not even skilled enough understand how to use service documentation. They are quick to get you off the phone won’t spend the time to make sure you got the help you need.
