I totally understand you, I guess this is a US site, what is happening with your company IS going against UK government and HMRC guidelines.

Furlough should be used for when there is no work coming into your site, your company is taking advantage of this. What they are doing is claiming 80% of your salary from the government - stating that you have no work (this I believe is your choice to have annual leave) and I presume your site still has regular work for you to do.

So, folks above, what this company is doing is claiming on the UK furlough scheme for a week or two leave, declaring that this employer has no work - which is not true, so when (s)he returns to work they can claim £1000 reinstatement bonus from the government pot, also saving 80% of this person's salary.

Totally unethical - Totally wrong. Contact a trade union - I know your company doesn't like them but please do.

I know you posted this in October, but it is still going on. Please let me know of any outcomes you have. Has any of your colleagues been furloughed since this time?

Mate how is that unethical? As someone who hasn’t been furloughed perhaps I see it a bit differently but you’re basically asking to get holiday on top of furlough?

I think I’m right in saying the government pays 80% to the company and doesn’t need to top up. But xerox pays 100%? Seems like a good deal to me.

As for your colleagues who’ve not been furloughed we’ve had to work our fingers to the bone to get our 100% pay.

Hope your garden is looking lovely and your golf game has improved. Seriously count your chickens mate, there are people in way worse situation than you. If I were you I’d offer to take my holiday while on furlough, it’d be the least I could do

Unfortunately my friend, ethics is only a term Xerox uses to promote themselves to the business community. It is irrelevant in reference to employees. Try to file a claim, get a lawyer, you'll be tied up in court for years. You'll never see a resolution.

The only ‘ethics’ that matter at Xerox right now is making sure that Carl gets his money anyway possible.

I have enough experience from my little corp cube to know that employment law in Europe is significantly more restrictive with respect to terminating employees than in the US and those laws have teeth. The fact that our ‘global’ business ‘leaders’ did not seem to know this is laughable if it weren't for the number of employees who have been crushed by them. You should have also heard their outrage when they found out that Xerox renewed a handful of Union agreements in early 2018 before they took over.

Just my opinion, don’t hold your breath for help with HR. From what I have seen, the good people left or were thrown out the window years ago and those who are left are fully committed to Carl or simply can’t afford to rock the boat because of personal reasons.

You need to file a claim/submit a formal notification to HR citing the specific law. If you don’t they will not correct the error. They have been known to short change employees in the US in many different ways.

In 2018 when the first major layoffs began in August of that year in the US and Canada under JV and the new management, they expected similar rates of layoffs in Europe. Due to their lack of understanding of various country rules regarding being "made redundant" as it is often called in European countries, the layoffs couldn't be done by year end and had to be delayed. Another example of incompetence which in this case turned out to be a good thing for XE employees! To the OP, good luck with HR.

My point is xerox are going against gov guide lines , yes this is trivial but what else are they doing that is wrong ? My guess is this is the tip of the iceberg . Claiming my tax $.

Sorry that happened..... in us we are dealing with way more serious ethical issues then loss of leave.
