@1qzl+17ibOV04 That’s amazing! I would be thrilled to take 1 month/year to leave XOM. Don’t think they’ll be that generous in Canada but I can hope.

When i got laid off from EMIT in the UK 3 years ago, the package was 1 month salary for every year you've worked, up to a maximum of 24 months. That's fairly normal for large corporations in the UK and Europe. It also the package the was offered to other functions and i recall s previous round of redundancy several in about 2010 the had the same severance package. They also gave us free help with cv building and career services.

Please tell me all expats are going home now. We don’t have any money. I can’t believe we haven’t sent expats back home yet. This is just another decision that makes me question our leadership.

I, nor anybody else, have any details yet. I fully expect that packages will range from 2-3 weeks for every 1 year of service. Minimum of 3 months, maximum of a year or something like that.

Packages in EU are BETTER than then are required to be by laws according to my peers.

Americans still get severance for being PIP'd. 3 months salary and access to relocation services as I recall. That's more than nothing.

Agree with comments about European colleagues. XOM only took in the best over there (not so much here). Honest and direct, sometimes a tad too much, but I’d take that any day of the week compared to people lying to your face at the campus. The strange thing is I’ve had European managers come here and they immediately turn into the same. Must be something in the water. Hope my friends are doing well in Machelen.

Very true. Americans like to say we are the best. But when economic times are hard, things get dire. Employers will kick you to the curb at their first opportunity. In this country, celebrating the "highs" means that you have to endure the "lows." For a younger person, this might be an ok risk. But once you are 40+ with kids, mortgage, etc, this is not as easy to endure. I'm not complaining. Just saying how it is.

Be glad you aren’t in the US then. We are likely to get nothing. I hope you get something. Good luck. I’ve had many great European colleagues through the years. Sad to see this happen and hope you’ve met enough Americans to realize our management isn’t like most of us.

If you are trying to extrapolate to a US package forget it. US laws don’t require it. Stop hoping for the impossible. Prepare for the inevitable. Abandon all hope.
