Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Why are we still interviewing?

Are we hiring people during the pandemic? Or are these interviews only pro forma? Whichever of these two options it is, it shouldn't be happening. There should be no hiring when we are laying people off left and right. And we certainly shouldn't be giving people false hope if that's what's happening.

Whoever listens to Fox news and thinks that folks on H1B is misguided.

The cheap labor H1B is never going away. The powers that be, the rich and powerful are addicted to cheap labor the way that the American populace is addicted to reality TV and cheap c-ap from China.

It doesn’t matter who is POTUS.

While employees who were making far less than their H1B counterparts were RIFd, Oracle continues to hire workers with far higher salaries for the same positions. Be informed and check the job postings at
https://www.lcapostings.com/oracle/Home/tabid/89/Default.aspx

Even positions that require less experience like technical analyst / QA analyst have the minimum salaries at 100k+, Oracle RIFd technical engineers making less than $30/hr with 20 years of experience.

Oracle America, Inc. is seeking approval of a labor condition application for the period of March 01, 2021 to February 28, 2024 to permit employment of 20 H-1B workers in the classification of Technical Analyst. The salary range for this job is $104,416.00 to $168,862.00 per year. The H-1B workers will be employed at our facility located at 7453 T.G. Lee Blvd., Orlando, FL 32822. The labor condition application relating to these employees is available for public inspection at our administrative headquarters for immigration matters, located at 500 Oracle Parkway, , Redwood Shores, CA 94065. Complaints alleging misrepresentation of material facts in the labor condition application and/or failure to comply with the terms of the labor condition application may be filed with any office of the Wage and Hour Division of the United States Department of Labor.

Companies hire continually, even when they are on a “hiring freeze”. There are always exceptions to the no new hires rule.

Whoever cant pass and maintain the OCI foundation certification should be fired( If that is the basket Oracle is putting all eggs in).

Thus cementing your doom in the broad market that does NOT want OCI.

Anybody who wastes their time on the useless OCI certification instead of spending that energy to leave Oracle will get exactly what they deserve.

“Let’s see, I can try to milk Oracle a few more months and become even more unemployable, or try to bug out ASAP.”

Lose/Lose

High earners with no new skills or atleast who have not kept relevant with changing times. Whoever cant pass and maintain the OCI foundation certification should be fired( If that is the basket Oracle is putting all eggs in).

I was just hired in OI - Oracle Apps 3 weeks ago. Oracle is still hiring. But in all reality, that's probably one of the better places to be in Oracle currently.

OMG I'm SO glad I'm not you. I'm giddy with that thought. I'm sure you are pleased to have a new job/role so I should say I'm happy for you, but best case is that it will take a huge toll on your mental health. Oracle is SO freaking dysfunctional, and ultimately just another failing company.

Good luck, and hopefully you are simply looking at this as a stopgap before the next gig.

My new team is hiring. My old team will be made redundant.

Trick is to have ties or value to the emerald city.

Seems like layoffs that are happening are just targeting high earners. I've heard of no new employees being laid off, all tenured folks who make lots of $$.

Don’t worry, this is all normal. Employees are disposable. Just like when you have lightbulbs that burn out, you go to the store and grab the cheapest ones off the shelf that you see for replacements. Same idea with Wallmart’s success. It’s the way of the great US of A, and no different at Oracle.

In my 10 years, they have always hired and fired at the same time. Pandemic has little or nothing to do with it.
