A CEO is really there to do three things to protect the stockholders’ interests.

Grow the business, increasing the stock value.
Make a profit, paying consistent or increasing dividends.
Manage risk to ensure consistency/linearity of the other two.

You can argue how effective CR and JC have been but that’s it. You, the employee, probably doesn’t make it into the top ten of The ELT’s priorities.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

The US is unusual in that regard, in many other countries it is considered bad corporate governance to have one person as CEO and Chairman.

It’s a bit like students marking their own exams.

Outsource as many jobs as possible is the motto of many companies in the Bay Area.
There are so many leads and managers who have worked hard to reach where they are now. It is sad that they are thrown out due to cost cutting and slow down. Bay Area and other major cities have high cost of living due to many getting rich through stock options. But all their money is going to buy homes that are inflated by 50-60% and kids college tuition fees that have tripled over the past decade. Health insurance have doubled. We are all victim of our own success.

Chuck is also the Chairman of The Board. The board is just a good ol' boys club that enables his poor-decisions.

You obviously do not know the role of the CEO. The CEO reports to the Board who directs everything at the stock price and nothing else. They do not care about anyone below them. Their job is to increase share by any means necessary. If that is your only goal, then you target the low hanging fruit...US labor. It is as simple as that.

I know it is horrible for those that have been given the option of the nice package to voluntarily quit. Remember, none of you or them have bene laid off. It is simply a choice at this point. You have to accept the fact that the CEO commitment to the business is drastically different than yours as Staff. Imagine if you were told as Staff that your weekly paycheck is based on the stock price increasing 0.25% per week. Your pay will be adjusted for not hitting that number. If the stock price is negative for the week, you pay Cisco back the money on Friday. would you agree to work that way?

Maybe this is why I'll never be a CEO but I can't imagine in good faith making $25 million dollars/year while simultaneously laying off 7k people amidst a global pandemic.

Chuck-Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, and a lack of empathy for others
