Did not take the severance package and glad I did not because the new company did not want to deal with non compete agreements. I got slightly less pay but much better benefits with a defined career path. Much happier a after leaving Honeywell

Did anyone else have difficulties lending a new job because of taking a severance and signing a non compete?
LOL! Should have taken the severance. HW will not fight you unless you start poaching people to come work for you at new org. Even then it's highly unlikely the will sue.

Does Honeywell make everyone sign a non-compete agreement or just executives and high level people?
I am the original poster and want to respond to a couple of statements. Yes non competes can often be beat in court but new companies to not want to be involved. Especially against giants like Honeywell. So the court fight is between you and honeywell and why fight when you can save money by not signing the non compete. As to how they know where you work that us easy. First because the document requires you to tell them. Second if you are well known in the industry word spreads fast because it impacts business for Honeywell. If you are not high profile as an engineer, scientist or manager there is probably no reason for concern
Should have taken the severance. the non-compete will not hold up in Court. Any company that lays off its people and tries to enforce the non-compete doesn't have a leg to stand on. If Honeywell tries to enforce it (which they will not), they will have to deal with the Courts which will probably want to nullify and review whatever agreements they have in place.

Honeywell cannot stop you from working with a non-compete agreement...if they let you go...just ignore it...the courts are in your favor.
