I just received my first unemployment payment and it was straight unemployment, no covid relief, is that correct? I have a friend that is also laid off and they are receiving extra $$ for covid (laid off in July, NOT from Dell). Just wondering if anybody was receiving it. I selected Covid related on my form. I'm in Texas and was laid off in the last big round in Sept., if that matters...

The post about the extra funds from the federal government not being taxed is incorrect. My husband has been drawing UE since March, and received the funds from the CARES act as well as the executive order and they were taxed at 10% just like his state UE funds. There is an option to withhold, and the max is 10%, but they will withhold if you opt in.
I am sure you are aware of this, I was not, so when I read it I made sure I told everyone who received extra covid funds on unemployment. Anything other than your unemployment (+600 or +300) they do not remove taxes like they do with your unemployment check. You will be hit with that when you do your taxes. So if you eventually get it, just put some funds away. A lot of people I know are having a fit right now. Just an FYI. Good luck. I have been in your position many times and it s*cks. I hope you land in a better position.
Why respond if you’re going to be a jerk?? I asked simply because I didn’t receive extra when my friend and now one other person I know, who got theirs today as well, did. I did do a google search btw and did not find a specific answer. Way to make me sorry I asked. Jerk.
A simple google search would have gotten you this answer boomer.
I recorded my meeting with HR. Reason cited was restructuring due to uncertainty caused by the pandemic.
I sent a email to Americas.wfr which directed me to HR_Records_Administrator who said that they use a vendor TALX to send them my claim from my state. Very frustrating!!!
The layoffs for Dell were not technically covid related - if you look at the questions on unemployment it asks if it was covid related meaning you do jot have to do the weekly job search because there is the possibility that you will get called back to work. Our layoffs fell under regular lay-off and we are required to do a weekly job search because we are not going to be called back. That being said, anyone on unemployment would get the extra covid relief - there is none at the moment, but if it gets renewed and you are collecting, you will automatically have the extra added to your weekly benefit.
I figured it had run out, just wanted to verify.
The supplemental unemployment from the federal government under the CARES act ended July 26. Trump signed an executive order to reallocate funds from FEMA for an extension of 3 weeks, but that ended before September 1. Neither Dell nor the states have any control over that funding. If your claim date was after those programs ended, you are not eligible for the supplemental unemployment.
Open an HR case.
I am not in Texas. However the unemployment office has been waiting on Dell for TWO WEEKS to verify information about my job separation. TWO WEEKS! I also requested the additional COVID relief, I guess we'll see what happens. It is a slow process for sure. Hang in there and dispute it!
