Advice -
These are difficult times. Bail out now and work in the city/state government or private sector, Leave academe ASAP.
Academe has had "bureaucratic bloat" for the last 40 years - too many administrators, too many assistant deans, too many sports expenses, too many fancy buildings. It'sh–ting the fan now, so don't bear the pain any longer. Resign and get a good, secure job elsewhere.
I left college teaching long ago, so now I live on a nice, juicy, secure state pension.
