Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

“Preparing People Leaders”

Just checked my email and saw a corporate communication that today at 3PM nationwide in all time zones Joe McFarland will be delivering a special meeting called “Preparing People Leaders” at the bottom of the email it says that resources and information needed for the broadcast are available in MyHR (I cannot access them as I am just a supervisor. This has me a bit curious:

  1. Preparing people leaders (managers) is what it’s called, preparing us for what? What could we need to prepare for?
  2. Next Friday is the end of the fiscal quarter, is something structurally changing that will go into effect next quarter.
  3. Manager meetings where yesterday so why is this so special that it couldn’t be covered yesterday? Why couldn’t Joe McFarland cover this in the Lowedown?
  4. It’s airing at the same time nation wide regardless of time zone so either it’s live or it’s something of importance.
  5. The email was sent out around 9AM for today at 3PM. Why such a short time span? Clearly this is something that has been planned by corporate for a while if there is documentation to go along, so why are we finding out right now? My SM is calling all managers with the day off to come in?

I’m not trying to troll anyone but this reeks of something that’s gonna be unpleasant. The fact that this wasn’t discussed in yesterday’s meetings when they clearly had managers available and in meetings is a red flag to me. The second red flag is the timing of the email, and the fact that it’s going to be done at the same time, corporate surely knows that people post stuff on social media and people text, I see them doing it at the same time as a way to control the information and make sure it doesn’t get out ahead of time. I don’t know how other stores are but the fact that my store manager got off the phone with the DM and started calling managers in on their days off tells me that this is not something simple. Finally the fact that the email states their is documentation and resources on line to assist wit this special event is even more suspicious to me. Again this is clearly something that has been planned by corporate, they’ve gone through the necessary steps to make sure that everything is ready, so why was this sprung on us at the last moment if not to control the information that is about to be revealed?

Did they actually state during the broadcast they were cutting Associate hours? Did they talk about extra effort needed with all the new holiday items we are selling like exercise bikes??? And delivering a Xmas tree >$45 for FREE. Customers aren’t going to do all that online, they are going to need Associate assistance.

How much money do we lose on delivering a $50 tree 74 mile away (75miles is my store FRee range). 1+hour of delivery time imo wipe out profit margin, plus associate time to fresh cut,wrap and get to delivery dock.

This broadcast was actually mentioned by Joe as something that was happening during the Lowedown yesterday. A lot of our store didn’t even watch or were off. Doesn’t appear to have been a huge deal.

Marv and Joe are cutting hours for the rest of the fiscal year to get back ALL OF THE BONUS MONEY THEY PAID OUT!!!

Maybe we can get some humane working hours being full time in a specialist department. My full time schedule does not make me feel like a specialist. Most likely not keep the revolving door going fire up the resume

Our District Manager was fired within past few weeks. I’m at store level, but never heard anyone say anything negative about him, so not sure why.
I did notice that the new replacement DM job listing talked ALOT about developing leaders.
Also talked about store efficiencies so I’m guessing more mgmt focus and less on Associates, except to drive more revenue per Associate and automation to reduce # of Associates required for the store.
