Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Who'll tell them?

Who'll let the ELT know that laying-off your way to profitability is not a way to run a company like Cisco? A company where growth is more important than anything? Instead of a brain drain facilitated by those on top, we should be doing the opposite - bringing in people who can help us build products that'll elevate us back to top.

Somebody really should tell them...

Cisco has been doing layoffs for 20 years. It ingrained in the culture and business model.

I seriously doubt you can change anything- don’t waste your time

Cisco started building refresh all across the campus 4-5 years ago. They got rid of cubes and replaced with desk next to each other and open office. Some of the bigger buildings have capacity of 250-300 each floor.
This is one of the reason cisco needs fewer buildings now. Layoff is another reason for sure.
These buildings and open spaces are COVID super spreaders for sure. Stay away until there’s a vaccine hopefully !

Those leased buildings were actually "owned then leased back", a practice Cisco had been doing for a long time.

It is correct that the number of bldgs sold in SJ is 20+. Those on Tasman from A - M, then 5 in Milpitas next to Tasman and Alder, and three in McCarthy Ranch, plus some other less known buildings in various locations like the one on Barber Lane.

I'd be surprised if the number of bldgs sold in SJ is 20+. Last count was 12 on Tasman Drive but that was as of early this year. There were several buildings on the corner of McCarthy Blvd and Tasman that were leased not Cisco owned that were vacated quite a while ago. Of course, the number of bldgs sold could've changed due to the pandemic. Haven't been to the SJ campus since February!

Cisco is hypocritical. Paying out millions in bonus to the C level while the stock ranks and people get laid off. They then spend piles of cash on social warrior projects while getting whacked a couple billion for infringing copyrights. Sleazy

What would happen to Cisco if Huawei was allowed to sell networking equipment in North America? Cisco would have to transform into a tech company and eliminate the layers of bureaucrats.

In hindsight, the government created monopoly that Cisco lobbied for destroyed the corporate culture.

It's a good thing for a walking dead company that can only come up with a product to sell by buying other companies then laying off their staff. It slows the decline if successful or speeds it up on bad purchases. Heaven knows Cisco blew billions on stupid deals. The decline gets more visible as they sell off buildings
and the layoff packages get weaker.

Fran does not speak Hurdu. Plus there no is H1B-equivalent visa for US citizens to work in India.

Cisco already sold most of its San Jose real estate. I'd estimate at least 20+ buildings sold at Headquarters in the last 5 years.

Send all jobs offshore and run through Managed Services model (including Engineering, why not?). Actually, Cisco can save more money by selling off most of its San Jose real-estate keeping just one Bldg for Chuck Norris. Everyone can move to Bangalore and work from there, including Fran.

Stock market is the only thing that will show them. When the stock stays in the gutter, BOD will wake up and make changes. ELT probably bought themselves some time with covid although many others In tech are booming.

There is no compassion, everything is about business and profits. Silicon Valley is a victim of its own success. Inflated house prices, high college fees and sky high rents are the main reason for demanding high salaries by employees.
Lay-off ? Bay Area is the first target. Looks like there is big problem in the way decisions are taken by upper management.
Outsourcing and intellectual property theft is the main reason for this decline.

It’s a managed decline. Going exactly to plan.
