Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

People are going crazy at home

Allstate doesnt care what anyone thinks. I can pretty much guarantee that the MAJORITY do not like it one bit to be couped up at home for this long, especially those with children. They are probably going nuts and pulling their hair out. Allstate is stretching out this covid situation as long as they can in keeping people home, but eventually they KNOW they have to return to the office. They also want this extra time to continue their layoffs and restructuring/reorganizing.

I know we are a minority, @cme+17vdf3Yb, but I agree completely!

Working from home is a dream for inside adjusters that spend their day looking at a monitor. They can do that anywhere and working from home was a dream gig long before this so of course they're happy. I'm a Field Appraiser and this feels like house arrest. I'm forced to do desk reviews of claims not even ever in my state and when I do get a local claim am told I can't go out. I could go out and take precautions very rarely coming in contact with customers anyway. I'm being grouped and labeled as a work at home employee. Ill never make it to July. That's ridiculous.

I miss my friends, but I don’t miss my commute! I actually like working from home. I’m fine with never going back!

I would like to go back into the office as well. I feel extremely isolated at home. I have worked for Allstate so long because of the amazing people I work with. Also I have issues with the home life balance. I work way more then I should for a company that doesn’t care. I want to be able to have adult convos lol

IF and I say IF...where would your children be IF you were at your wanted Office. IF thas is your issue, take them where you would take them and work from home without the distraction. This next comment might surprise you, but many people dont have kids at home so we dont want to stay home for daycare to save money. It isnt an issue.

I love being at home. My life is significantly better as a result! I’m also much more creative and productive.

I LOVE working from home! Was that really someone crying after the announcement?! I thought I heard someone sobbing during the All Hands meeting. I know there are some people who want to be away from the home because of limited space/kids/spouses, but not everyone has these issues. I have no kids, a nice office I set up at home, no 1 hour long commute any more, no more "Sunday Blues" dreading the coming work week, plus I happily put in more hours since I don't have to race out the door to beat traffic. This is heaven for me. Sorry some folks are having trouble but many of us are much, much happier.

What’s there not to like? No cringey “water cooler talk”, no managers over your shoulder, no commute, no traffic, no small talk while I’m trying to work, no gross shared bathrooms or kitchens. I can eat lunch, get coffee, use the bathroom whenever I want, no lame meetings wasting time, no office politics or drama or backstabbing, my productivity has increased substantially and I don’t dread going to work now

I AGREE WITH YOU. THERE IS A WORK LIFE BALANCE THAT HAS BEEN DISRUPTED. Not to mention some people don't have the space in their home, some have screaming children. It sounds like the ones who want to continue to work from home may be parents and are saving on childcare or don't like having to change their clothes from yesterday. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

I would prefer to work in an office. Although not me, I almost cried at the announcement yesterday.

I'm very happy to be at home, specially since I was laid off and this way I can spend my 60 day looking for another job.

Speak for yourself. Sorry not sorry that your escape from your household and children is to go to an office where the other employees much rather be at home. Being a home based is absolutely great!! No traffic, not being exposed to other people's germs in recycled recirculated air 8+ hrs a day 5 days a week. Less distractions from coworkers. Not exposed to office drama. Not having to share a restroom with others. The list goes on and on.

You start out saying you can "pretty much guarantee" people don't like working from home, and end by saying you know you're in the minority.

Allstate has no control over COVID. I agree they are stretching this out in hopes they can get rid of real estate and have as many people working from hone as possible, but the reality is that most people would rather work from home anyway
