Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Was severance package good enough?

To me, the severance package seemed fair (mind you, I haven't been laid off yet, so my opinion in this case is trumped by that of people who have been laid off.) So this makes me wonder, what would you have considered a fair severance? What would have it taken for you to walk away satisfied?

It was very generous, much more than previous layoffs.

I hate to say this but we are all "at will" employees. RJ was under no obligation to give us anything. I've warned those I know still at RJ to not trust anything, save as much as they can and look out for themselves. Paul Reilly deceived us with all those town halls. It still sticks in my gut him telling those left that they had known for months that RJ was overstaffed.

RJ has a ton of money in the bank. They didn't need to do this to us. That said they also didn't need to give us 2 weeks for every year of service. I'm still in the "very angry" category and although I don't wish any ill will on the worker bee's I believe management brought this on and hopefully they will eventually pay the price

I worked for almost 2 decades and always gave my best and got good reviews of my work. After all that time and getting my pay raises I wonder if I became a target for the lay-offs. I would have taken a pay cut and no bonus instead of being laid-off during these difficult times even if I think I got a fair severance package.

I don't think RJ was under a financial crisis losing money, we always heard the company was in a good position. We also heard we were family and families help each other during difficult times.

As I see the same happened to lots of good people so don't think that the low performers were the ones laid-off.

I worked for the company for a quarter of a century and was paid less than one year salary in severance. I would not call that generous, just average. Considering we are in a pandemic and the economy will make it very difficult to find decent work, severance of a month per year of employment would have been more appropriate.
