Esurance vs Allstate pay

Is it true that Esurance generally had higher pay than Allstate despite being a smaller company?

I was with Esurance before it was purchased in 2011, and am still employed in the claims department, unfortunately surviving the cut last month. I know what my position pays at Allstate and frankly my salary is way more. A lot more. I’m not saying that I’m better than my Allstate counterparts. I am saying that at least in my department we were some of the most highly compensated in the country at Esurance. Esurance had its quirks, but based on what I’ve seen, it treated its employees vastly better than Allstate does. Hopefully I’ll get cut in the next round of layoffs because I can barely summon the effort to care thanks to Allstate’s “leadership.”

I'm trying to wrap my brain around the idea that pay is / should be higher at bigger companies. In the c-suite, sure, but not at the worker bee level.

Esurance part of Allstate for years. Salaries related to geozone and job level. But Esurance has been aligning to Allstate but by bit over the years. Unlikely there’s much difference.

Esurance had locations all over the nation, not just their corporate offices in San Francisco. There were four different salary zones you fell into depending on your office location. If you were in CA, you were in the highest salary band structure due to the cost of living. Looking at the salary band structure for SC was WAY lower. It's a very broad statement to ask because there are so many different types of jobs. I was in the claims umbrella and there was such a high turnover in claims that someone would be replaced by someone with zero claims experience so they were paid at the very bottom of the pay structure. Allstate doesn't have a high claims turnover so seasoned employees would generally make more money over time. You also can't compare the sales/call center pay with Allstate agents. One is a business owner and the other an hourly employee that normally gets hired with zero insurance background. All claims employees in CA were hourly as well, salary was not an option unless you were at management level due to the labor law issues in CA.

I worked for Esurance. Now under Allstate. The main difference is that I was exempt or non-exempt. Can never keep them straight. But I would get OT with Esurance. Maybe just 4 or 5 hours a pay period but now straight salary. A big difference spread over the year. I used to get in trouble for anything I did after hours I'm sure because of lawsuits against companies now I can do whatever cause I'm not getting paid. I love the questions they say people are asking in the town halls. Do you want me to believe someone asked how is Allstate making it easier for me to vote. I got one. I'm an appraiser not an office adjuster when Can I go on the road?

I would say that salary was comparable to any similiar role with any company. We did have a few people come over from Allstate that all made more money at Esurance. However, all Esurance employees had bonus targets(with exception of call center type folks who had monthly incentives) that started at 10% yearly. Three years ago I received a 32% bonus due to performance and company profit. Than Allstate decided to cut the targets down that anyone who was eligible for the Esurance plan would be all be reduced to a max 10% target and they never really paid out more than that. Senior leaders and above fell under Allstate bonus plan and targets

Yes, primarily because the Bay Area has a higher cost of living and commands higher salaries.
