Hello,
Im a job grade 5 engineer, I make about 105k. Curious what a job grade 4 engineer with the same capabilities as me has? Downstream USA. Any ideas help. Any idea what the % increases are between job grades and how quickly they can be reached? I am new to Shell, dont know this stuff very well. Thanks!

What job grade would a senior machinery engineer be at salary wise in Canada shell.
JG4 engineer, 172k after 5 yrs in grade and including this year's joke of a raise. 100% PIR is unachievable for many, but that increases by 20% each grade, plus 5% higher bonus, and starting at JG3 the possibility of getting performance shares (#'s increase per grade). Good luck getting a promotion though. Super easy to be 1-2 job grades behind your peers at other companies. Shell's culture is so bad now that I'm looking for a new job for the first time ever.
The PIRs between JG5-JG1 are 20%. So take your PIR, add 20% and that would be the jump. You won’t get that kind of a raise though. It takes time after promotion to reach the 100% mark. Commercial/Finance roles are about the equivalent of a JG lower role versus an engineer. So if you are JG5 engineer, you are probably making similar to JG4 commercial.
Bonus? What bonus? Van Burden kept most of the profits over the last several years with his bonus'. The rich get richer (or laid off) and the hourly suffer and keep the place running without salaried employees. I want to be represented by the Union. This is horse sh–.
@5olu
Im a JG4 in downstream doing 170k base...190k base is realistic for upstream...that being said he has probable been stuck in that role for a while
I know a JG4 in upstream who claims he is pulling in $185 k - $190 k base pay
You dont make it at 70. its no use being even a billionaire by then.
I started 37 years ago as an engineer at $25k. By ‘90s I had broken the $100k barrier. By the time I retired, several years ago, I had gotten to $328k (excluding benefits). I am not sure, but I suspect I made more than my supervisor. I always worked the ‘coal-face’ and kept my operational skills razor sharp. I retired with a nice pension and a boat full of $. But, I sweated blood and bleed 100% Company to get this salary. Times were good although there were many downturns during this period but I never was laid off. Now, I often enjoy a glass of Silver Oak cab in the evening and a pipe full of huckleberry purple crush. I just turned 70 and hope to ride this gravy train for another + 20 years. Ha, I made it! Good luck to you all.
You can go up to 120 percent of PIR which is 100 percent of PIR of next JG
Can anyone speak to the pay bands for JG 5/4/3 for non-technical staff?
Just switched from a engineering role in P&T to a commercial role in downstream (Thanks Avanti) so I’m not familiar with the commercial pay bands. I know that technical pays more but not sure by how much.
No it only matters what your buisness line is. If you are manufacturing plant stream or downstream office it's the same...
For downstream 100% PIR for most engineers is
5-120k
4-150k
3- at this point you are a manager tbh or an SME but ~ 180k
Add 15-20k on top each of these job grades if you work in upstream or P&T
Those grades and pay ranges are also different if located at a manufacturing site compared to corporate, correct?
100% PIT in next job grade is +20%. So if 5 is 120, 4 is 150
Grade 4 Pay band is up to $150k I believe.
Is not it 10% jump per grade? Then bonus was 10/15/20/.. for jg5/4/3.
Notice I said bonus "was", back in the day!
Your pay will jump about 10-20% going up a JG, at least it used to. Don’t expect any promotions any time soon either...
