Could it be that ss and his son executed the transaction hoping to sell two companies for more than each one individually? So much of their capital tied up in it, sounds like a good exit strategy to happily ever after?

A lot of companies are banking on oil recovering by the end of 2021.

That’s probably their long term plan. Consolidate now, take on the amount of debt that makes us let attractive. Once oil rebounds in 2022, a major will buy at a premium.
