Here in usa ibm pays half at best to it's developers.
There's no comparison to FANG. Even startups (like airbnb which arvind mentioned) pay 100% more.

The WLB is a myth and is used to sell people this low salary. Because of constant layoffs and some people who get by without doing anything, wlb is actually worse. Not to mention this fear of getting laid off arbitrarily.

Even clg grads in cs are making as much as b9 if not more at good tech companies.

I got laid off from GTS Uk in September after 20 years... A high performer, good at what I do and respected, but if you dont work for your home country (out of sight out of mind) you will be for the chop...I have masses of experience as a result of my time and there are plenty of jobs out there (I am just finding the right one), but one things is obvious...IBM pay prox 20% less then the market rate so may have been a blessing in disguise :-)

I 100% can understand...it is a horrible place with terrible culture and leadership. I was a VP and have never been treated so poorly. Apply to every job you see...you certainly can't do worse.

And yes, I do remember the IBM of the 1990's and even early 2000's and loved it there...things went bad fast under Ginni and her toxic leadership culture. Just look at all the GREAT leaders that were lost/left/fired under her while she was CEO.

Transfer to NC. It's awesome.
Get a hobby where you can travel.
Two trips a month, a few trips to Asia ain't bad. Great perks, if you can play the game.

Same. Be ready for a million questions from interviewers though. The IBM brand has become the butt of every joke in both the tech and consulting industries. Unless you have a golden handcuffs situation or you’re reliant on them for work sponsorship, people will question why you’ve joined and why you’ve stayed.
Thanks, greedy execs, for destroying the IBM brand.

Put your resume out there on the boards, go to job fairs. Door isn't locked to get out.

Sorry, I work for IBM and I don't hate them - I find them rather charming. You just have to realise that it's two organisations though. One organisation is the team you work in, its immediate management and above. My experience is that this organisation is generally great - sure, there are some duds, but on balance, the teams on the ground and their bosses - and their bosses are pretty cool, kindly and care about their employees.

The second organisation is the one that forms in smoke-filled rooms in Armonk and makes the calls about RAs. They have power but no tactile connection to the people you work with or for. On this forum and places like it, people like this are referred to as 'execs'.

So yes, hate the execs, but don't hate the people you spend your career working with.

If you hate IBM, leave. Too many people think they have no choice. You can find something better.

Can anyone clarify what "Fishbowl" is? Is it like Blind? Not sure I want to download this if it has any drawbacks .. (tracking?)

Make sure you hint at your hatred to your colleagues and customers. That way you'll get out with a package fairly soon.

Yep, Fishbowl is fantastic to hear what is going on at IBM.

Ibm pays its employees (developers) middle (maybe lower) class wages while industry pays 2x, 3x times.

Think about it in a good way that once you get out of here you will definitely earn what industry pays.

Even the pmr study they did doesn't reflect total wages when compared to market because it was probably done few years ago and never updated even for inflation or those are just fake numbers.

And no-one including Jim, Arvind etc. Seems aware of this problem because executive pay seems good and ibm has top down culture so no one probably informs them.

Which BU?
Might want to try your venting on Blind or Fishbowl. Everyone on there is just as miserable. It’s hard to find someone who is actually happy at IBM who isn’t an exec resting and vesting.

Then resign.
Honestly, if you don't have anything constructive to bring to this forum... get the hell out of here.
