So this crane master outfit, how are they doing work as Carmen but are contractors. Are they just doing lifts for re railing ? Are they doing Carmen work of air tests and repair work?

If NS replaces carmen with an outside contractor and gives them your work you can file for the New York Dock Agreement. If they just close your point or lay you off then you cant. The union wont be much help either. They tried to talk us out of it. We all took the money and left and moved on 14 yrs wasted.

How does the New York doc agreement work? They threw me out last year and are doing away with all mechanical jobs at my home point?

brc sold out all ns carman. They represent ttx carman. So they gain when we lose our jobs ask your union rep .ttx owns more than just intermodal . if your represented by brotherhood of carman they do not have your best interest in mind. Good luck.

This would surprise the f— out of me. TTX is a non profit company and only employs Carmen to save them money on repairs to their own cars. That being said Portlock isn’t really set up in a way TTX likes things to be and deals with a lot more than just intermodal freight. Beside that they already work the cars going to the ports which is 100% intermodal. I doubt they want to deal with the grain and tank cars. Not to mention all the air tests they would be doing. Can’t work TTX cars if you’re busy working outbound air and inbound inspection( yes TTX does inbound inspection).

Buyouts were based off a formula in the New York Dock Agreement in the carmen contract.Everyones amount was different but not by much. I remember the buyouts maxed out at 10 yrs.

Probably explains why TtX has been hiring alot of carman for the Norfolk area.

When TTX took over at the point where I worked we were offered a buyout or transfer. The catch was you were only guaranteed employment for a year.Ttx also paid 7$ an hour less and noone over 50 got hired .

Portlock is a intermodal yard with about 20 Carmen.

I have seen ttx take over the intermodal yards that were owned by NS, but that's about it. What does portlock do, and how many carmen are there?

Have also heard from very reliable source in labor relations that NS is in talks with TTX to take over all mechanical operations at the Portlock Yard sometime in January next year.
