We all know layoffs are coming with this 'merger,' but what I'm interested in is how bad will they really get. I'm getting a feeling that a lot of people are minimizing the scope of what's about to happen and I think too many might get caught with their proverbial pants down. But I guess we won't know for sure until it happens...

Well with the announcement of the VPs that are staying, my guess is very few people will be let go. It will mainly be people from WPX that don’t want to move to OKC. Devon lost zero VPs and are adding several WPX VPs to our already top heavy org chart. Just when we all thought WPX would come in and clean up the fat, they add to it. Get ready for annual layoffs going forward since they didn’t want to get the company right sized in the merger.
Could you put it in plain English!
Am I gonna get a big check for doing nothing like Devon is so well known for?

Don't you realize that the synergy of the merger will create so much opportunity that the resultant company that's hiring frenzy will begin.
Ultimately, this union will be the turning point for energy for the remaining part of the century. Not at all like the 10-12 times this okie t–d eating organization did before.

I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for the laid off and you curse the Organization. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Laying people off, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me to hold that back stabbing knife. You need me to hold that back stabbing knife. We use words like "dishonor", "chode", "disloyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline! I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very fear that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a back stabbing knife, and stand a post.
