Qataris replacing employees with contractors

I am noticing a trend of the Qataris replacing employees on joint venture projects with contractors on projects. In many cases they are using contractors we have released to displace employees. Doesn’t fit the narrative employees are fed very well does it?

The 1099 business professional has been replacing W2 employees with benefits since the 09 recession. In particular, in the oil & gas industry, since the 2015-16 oil crisis. Experienced 1099 employees are equipped to handle the job or jobs of W2 workers who have become stale or dated in the profession. A C suite employee may be offered a full set of benefits in order to lure that C suite employee from another company but overall the 1099 worker seems to have more staying power within a corporation. 1099 consulting work or working with a company project can be beneficial to the company and the 1099 employee. A W2 employee pushed out of a position has opportunity to return to the workforce based on experience, knowledge and age becomes less of a number. There has not been a cake in the conference room to celebrate an employee's decision to retire and long term commitment to a company in a long time.
