Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Too old to start over, too young to retire

I am going to make this quick. I’ve got roughly 35 years in the industry and was hoping I could remain with Crown (14 years) until I was able to retire. Well it doesn’t look that way. I don’t know if I am able to start over with another company because I don’t know if another company will hire me. But I don’t have a choice, do I? I wasn’t expecting it. Never saw it coming. What a rotten way to treat your employees.

Sad! I am sure the company could have been much more respected by all it's employees, had Jay Brown pleaded his case to achieve revenue and cut overhead. All he had to do was to make all employees understand the predicament the company was in and ask each employee to take a 5% pay-cut. Certainly everyone would have agreed if it meant keeping every employee employed. Not only would the trust and admiration of all employees have stayed in tact, it would have also went a long way in the belief of this company being a special place. Now, with the way it was done, the 3Bs are gone, the trust is gone and the employee security is certainly destroyed. With what is left, expertise have been completely eroded and customers will suffer due to SLAs and customer service being negatively impacted. This will be a difficult situation at best, to overcome....if at all. I wish them luck, but, I believe very dark days are ahead for a company that once was very much admired by all those, who gave their all, to this company.

Positivity appreciated, not the writer of the original post, but this is great advice! There
will be other employment opportunities, but this event will still sting.

Don't sit around, get your resume updated right away, get it posted on several sites, start networking with former employees who work in the Industry, good people always land on their feet. You will find a job, it might take a month, it might take a year, you might even find a better job than you had at Crown.
