Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Can we trust them?

I know we were told layoffs are done but can we really trust them? They went back on their word once already, who's to say they won't do it again? I'd really like to be able to relax and enjoy the holidays with my family but I can't get rid of this fear that we are still not done despite of what we were told.

It has to do with Accounting. I see a similar bloodbath in March when Sales Management is going to be shown the door due to poor sales numbers, Eliot Mgt is scrutinizing everything in the Fiber Group and they are seeing Managers and Directors with 1 or 2 reports and miniscule sales results. Expect to see some quick "Retirements" in the 1st quarter of next year.

Why wait till March for the fiber cuts?

Many more cuts coming on the Fiber side by the end of March, automation coming too. Reps and Middle Management beware

There were several layoffs in engineering department in late 2016/2017 when they promoted their young managers and wanted to clean house of anyone with experience that saw the lack of skills in these managers. Everyone here seems surprised with the "sudden" change in behavior towards employees... I'd say the writing was on the walls for several years now.

No trust at all. People were told Thursday their job was safe and the layoffs were done only to get locked out Friday and get a call with no answers or explanation.
Don't trust a thing anyone says, they have no more of a clue than you do.
I have heard from existing management the layoffs are not done and more will be coming Q1. Good people who have been with Crown a long time and survived so far are now marking themselves as "looking for opportunity" on Linkdin. Do not sit on your hands and think you are safe.

In any line of work, you’re never safe especially in these unfortunate times. While it’s not ideal, it’s nice that Crown has provided a severance package that at least gets you by for 2 months + depending on your tenure. It doesn’t hurt to have your resume ready and possibly throw a fishing line out and see what bites, while crown is an amazing company to work for, there are other companies out there very similar to crown. Just never assume you’re safe.

With that said, I would definitely expect another round, possibly much smaller and maybe focused In departments outside of networks since that’s been hit the hardest. The reason for the cuts is said to be due to role eliminations which from what I see is not an incorrect statement however, you do need to consider the pipeline for 2021 is down significantly and due to COVID, the merger of TMUS/SPT, the delay in dish, we will not hit our guidance for this year I suspect. Also add in that DTO is working to create better systems and automation which will eliminate some roles as well.

My only gripe with the entire process is that there could have been better communication. In the end, this is a business and we are all adults, we understand how this shirt works and will accept whatever outcome it is. Also, there are people that got let go that are not replaceable while those that are were kept or saved. Same roles. Most Managers had no inputs and had no clue till the day prior. So the decisions were from the VPs that are legacy fiber and don’t even know who they fired or what experience they let go. Remember legacy small cells managed both fiber and small cells projects so to say a fiber PM is more important than a Small cel PM is null and void. This was based on favoritism. I also imagine they looked at compensation as a first along with relationships hence the huge amount of small cel talent released vs their peers in fiber. That’s a huge miss and lack of vision.

They haven't laid anyone off since 2002 or so, that's a fact. What's the source on Q1 layoffs?

Crown has layed off people long before this current round and will do so again in early 2021.

NO! Upper mgt informed us that the layoff's were due to all of the overlap between companies that were acquired by Crown. Does anyone believe that? What a BS statement. If that was the case then why did Crown grow by 20% the last few years after the acquisitions. They also stated they never layed off anyone before, more bunk. Get your resume ready, who knows what will happen with the lawsuits against CC.
