Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

There are worse places to work

Last week was my first anniversary with the company and I can safely say that despite all the complaining I've been reading here, this really is not that bad of a place to work for. It's not ideal, but my only issue in the past year have been possible layoffs. And it says a lot that I'm still here despite the pandemic.

The deal breaker that motivated me to resign (in addition to having a complete id–t for a boss in Grand Rapids) was the whole drama surrounding medical/dental benefits. Several meetings with an insurance rep who was brought in to literally read from a binder, but refused to answer questions on what our premiums would be. We wouldn't know until the last minute. (I guess this is called the 'Nancy Pelosi strategy'?) HR couldn't even give us the courtesy of answering questions.
Terrible high deductible plans and coverage were the new options. It was a pattern of HR just closing their eyes and ears to employee questions and concerns and rolling their eyes when people kept asking for information. I'd had enough of the games and stupidity.

L3 likes it when their employees lower their standards and convince themselves that this is the best that they can do.

I LOVE my job now at a competitor and it has honestly been the best decision I ever made to leave and never look back.

Did you by any chance go to a smaller firm? I've heard some pretty sweet deals (HUGE 401k match, no premiums for health insurance) at small-to-mid-size defense contractors. L3Harris is probably struggling to control its overhead, especially with regard to manufacturing.

Benefit cut here, benefit cut there, reward cut here, reward cut there, program cut here, program cut there, bonus cut here, bonus cut there, while the top take multi-million dollar merger bonuses, bureaucratic control addition here and another there, threats of blacklisting if you leave, you must work OT even when struggling to find valid direct work, death by a thousand cuts and then they ask why are the employees becoming less 'engaged' .

There are so many better companies in defense to work for, “it’s not that bad” speaks volumes to the terrible culture at the company. I worked at legacy L3 for more than 5 years and it was bad then, the stories I hear now from my colleagues still there saddens me to see what Harris has done to the company and it’s people. I LOVE my job now at a competitor and it has honestly been the best decision I ever made to leave and never look back.

I dont get how people get so negative about petty things.

Hey its an internet forum. We're here to vent and gripe and complain. Back to work tomorrow, though!

If you've only been here a year, you have no idea how much the company has taken a dive since we added an H to the name. Remember now, L3 is silent.

Oh and if any of you didn't notice, product is now confirmed as more important to the company than you. Product can have fans, and we can't. Remember that we are only essential because sacrificial sounds too harsh.

We used to at least get something beneficial for Thanksgiving, now we just get COVID.

It can be a good place to work if you are in the right area. Unfortunately more bad than good.

Yeah there's a lot of complaining that goes on here, mostly from people who have been around longer than a year.

But if your only issue is concerns about being laid off then you are in a pretty good situation!

Fast. Forward. Forever!
