It’s an old article but still interesting. The point is to show the culture. I doubt it has changed much except the business outlook is weak. Dinstel earned his retirement. It does not matter if he was going to get another gig. It shows the toxicity. That wasn’t right.

Sometimes even if you keep quiet things get around. It’s a small world and it’s not unusual to run into someone who knows someone. “Hey we just hired one of your retiring guys. We’re glad to get him. How’s the family doing?” Ya know this type of stuff.

Poor guy. I know EM 28/28 rotators that had second jobs on their days off including me. Not a second job in the oilfield but still ... I always kept my mouth shut.

Lesson learned from Dinstel is to keep silent. Do not share future plans with colleagues and supervisors. Seems that he was somewhat outspoken and that just does not work in the Humble, Exxon, ExxonMobil model. He seems to admit that loose lips did sink his ship.
