Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

Are you constantly doing unpaid overtime?

It’s an antiquated work culture. Pembina was the only company I have worked for in my entire career where if you weren’t putting in 1-3 hours of overtime each day, taking your laptop home with you, working through lunches, you were looked at as not being a team player, and not putting team and company first. I stayed late when it was required of me, but otherwise always worked my 8.5 hrs a day, went home and lived my life, then came back the next day to do it all over again. I routinely heard the passive aggressive comments about me, and would see the funny and dirty looks walking out the door. Sorry for having a life, I suppose. And to me, if you have to genuinely put in all that extra UNPAID overtime, you have either taken on too much work, or you are not properly utilizing your time. If you are staying late solely for perception, and to try and get ahead, well, honestly the joke is on you. Totally bizarre.

Well said, @cira+18sfq02a. I couldn’t have described Pembina better so I copied the post into a new thread. I worked overtime for a long time, until I got to the point where my private life was starting to suffer seriously.

I, as well as many in my team years ago would put in overtime to support projects and maintenance. Several years ago, earned flex time was introduced, and mine as well as the groups stomach for overtime, disappeared - problem solved. I routinely tell my team now not to work more than 42 hrs / week. If there's a situation that calls for working late, don't turn up first thing the next morning.

I remember during a townhall in 2016 or 2017, someone submitted an anonymous text to Mick that questioned the expectation of working longer hours, and a lack of a work life balance. Mick seemed genuinely surprised at the question and essentially said "Everyone is putting in longer hours", shrugged his tiny shoulders and that was the end of it. I believe that was when they announced the "Pembina Pour". Get your staff buzzed on booze so they temporarily forget what a trash company they work for. Also, brilliant sending Calgary staff who oversee safety sensitive work back to work inebriated. A trashy old boys club company.
