Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Getting our kids to work here? I think not

No parent in their right mind would ever ever tell their kids to go into oil and gas let alone at Cenovus. Non stop layoffs, eight or nine rounds here alone. You have a very warped view because no student would go into school right now with an aim of working here. It’s not sustainable employment. I will do everything I can do have my children work somewhere stable and that cares about their people. There are no replacements coming along the university pipe. I suppose the caveat would be if your dad is the CEO.

Easy for y’all to come and b–ch the o&g. Y’all had good years with the oil sands boom and 2010-15 with f fat 25,000$ bonuses and sunny Fridays and lavish Xmas parties and expenses reports stampede parties etc etc. So give me a break and leave your chair to someone else with some ambitions. Hey you had good years while many of us had half your bloated salaries and no freebies.

I’m sick of this fair and respectful talk from these so called leaders. It’s not going to be fair or respectful unless they promised increased packages to March these unprecedented jobless times. And before you go and say you’re lucky to get anything I would remind you how they are enriching themselves to the tune of $30M in retention bonuses. So if there is extra money for them I’m sure they can find extra money to help those laid off. If you want to be fair and respectful it goes both ways.

And PS for sure that’s a wig. It just sits there like a mushroom cap never moving perfectly in place. So you should not criticize anyone’s looks as it may be due to a medical condition.

Due to this corruption culture, companies go downhill and down the drain. Husky is living example of this, these "relatives" have brought the company down onto it's knees, left poor Li Ka-shing no choice but to merge to save his assets. It only hurts when the money comes out of your own pocket, but when the money comes out of someone else pocket, it's very easy to abuse. Hiring incompetent people (relatives), then asking these incompetent people to make decisions that involve billions of dollars, later when the plane crashes, wondering what went wrong. Businesses thrive on talent. Survival of the fittest. This is just the beginning. COVID-19 has initiated this cleanup for many oil & gas companies, that is if they survive in years to come. Good luck! 😉

" it is funny, for 10 years I 've seen 7 new grads. All of them were kids of someone in the company. I wondered if they ever had hired anyone without connections inside.. daughter of the past CFO.. daughter of the current CEO.., wife of EVP providing consulting services to the unit reporting to his husband at the rate exceeding market..there are so much corruption and favoritism. I am glad I am no longer at this industry. Good luck Guys, this layoff is not the last in the year, there will be more rounds throughout next years, there are so many friends who stay at all cost "

Seriously if you pushed your kid to work at cenovus that would be like child abuse. I mean why would you want them to go through the non stop stress and mental anguish we all did. I got laid off last round and promised myself to steer my kids to any career but this one. It’s what any good parent would do to see them up for success.

You are a complete id–t. With comments like that you should just quit. No need to have negative nellies at this company. Save us the headache.
