Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Retirement location

Non-native Texans (and others with wits), where will you relocate? We couldn’t get out of Houston fast enough. Between the ugly concrete, shocking weather, pickup trucks, and property taxes we had enough. Most retirees seem to move north and west. Thoughts?

Stoney Creek VA (Blue Ridge mountains - Wintergreen). Far away from the oil field. 40 years in the oil patch was enough!

We've lived in many places...even The Woodlands, TX, but chose to invest in Missouri. Purchased large tracts of rural land several times. Started 20+ years ago and have never regretted it. Low taxes and privacy. Just stay away from KC, St. Louis and Columbia and you will be fine. We are also physically active and there is always something to do. We have never depended on "big city" entertainment and eating out...even when it was out our backdoor.

From the tone of your post, Seattle or Portland might be just right for you.

Gary, Indiana or Compton in LA are attracting many retirees, especially those from the Bay area.

Where you move to depends on where you can find decent paying employment, unless you are just ready for retirement. South Carolina is a nice state to move to. I relocated back to Virginia. I know what you mean about Houston.
