Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I am still here, but I don't want to be

I survived this latest round but after seeing how many loyal employees this company has once again screwed over I really don't want to be. These were all good employees. Well, now they've lost another one. I'm giving them my bare minimum from now on until find a replacement. Screw this place.

Every time they walked up and gave my co-worker a hatchet in the back I said I was going to relax and just put in my time instead of going the extra mile. It usually lasted about 2 weeks at the most. I would do the same thing every time they gave me a 1 or 2% raise which is actually a decrease in pay.

I was "let go" over two years ago. Escorted out of the building by security, like a felon. The Friday before Christmas. I found a new job a few months later, and now wondered how I was able to stay at BNY Mellon as long as I did. Horrible people, horrible bosses. I can't believe anybody in their right mind would ever consider working for them now.

They should remove the word Mellon from BNY Mellon. The company is now run by all BNY executives. Those executives are solely focused on costs, but they'll say it's the client they are focused on. I worked there for over 30 years, and what I saw was total focus on reducing expenses by cutting staff. It wasn't the value of the people that they laid off. It was the cost. The company is on a downward spiral.

6 weeks per year of service, in my region.

@qps+18S4JaVx, you are hilarious. "Automatically entitled to a year's worth of severance pay?" What are you smoking, because I want some.

It's two weeks per full year you've been with the company. The only people getting a year are the people who've been here for 26 or more years.

Is everyone automatically entitled to a year's worth of severance pay if laid off? thanks!

Ya for those that don’t like it, it’s probably not a great time to “just leave”. That little covid thing kind of messed up the job market, in case you haven’t heard.

It’s not as easy as just leaving. Believe me, I know. Everybody’s circumstances are different and that is a very ignorant statement. I waited 2-3 years for a lay off and finally just got it. I’m thrilled, but I honestly feel for anyone who wanted it to be them and it wasn’t. The thought that if it wasn’t me I’d just quit was seriously considered, but thankfully it was. The waiting game is over! Best wishes to those still there and don’t want to be and to those who aren’t there and have anxiety about it.

If you don’t want to be here - leave. There- problem solved.

Then stop doing your job, get a BE, and get laid off in the next round. I wanted a package and this strategy worked like a charm for me. During Covid, I went a week without so much as logging on while occasionally checking/answering emails from my phone and joining calls that I couldn't get out of.

Same boat here.
Not one person in my (unnecessarily large and unorganized) group has been let go yet so there’s still hope, I guess.

I don't want to be here either. I wake up in the morning and I ask myself what's the point? We are working longer hours, doing more work and getting the same c-ap pay and now my department wants all the client groups to learn other clients processes for various daily jobs.

Some of those let go wanted to be let go and now they are enjoying a year’s pay.
For those of you who wanted to stay good luck out there
