Thread regarding Ford layoffs

And another botched launch begins the end:

https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2021/01/16/ford-mustang-mach-e-delivery-delay/4189265001/

Deliveries of the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E will be delayed for hundreds of customers in North America for additional quality review, work that will be completed in the U.S., the company confirmed to the Free Press on Saturday.

"As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles, we are conducting additional quality checks on several hundred Mustang Mach-E models built before dealer shipments started last month. We want to ensure they meet the quality our customers expect and deserve," said Ford spokeswoman Emma Bergg.

"We notified affected customers (several hundred in US and Canada) that they may receive their Mustang Mach-Es on different timing than previously discussed," she said. "The team is working to expedite these vehicles, and we hope that customers receive them ahead of targeted dates, providing there are no COVID-19-related transportation delays."

The vehicle is assembled in Mexico and available through pre-order only, not sold off dealer lots. A few Mach-E SUVs had been delivered as scheduled in late December, Bergg said.

Looks like Billy is running the company again. Employees don’t deserve all this negative publicity. You can’t blame them when ford hires outside consultants ( Boston analytics) to advise on how they should reduce workforce, or how to conduct BIC studies. WTF why not utilize the experience people you have oh yeah they were SRD or have lost loyalty to ford. Say to say a company is supposed to get better as time goes on. Where is Lee Iacocca when you need him. Alan where are you??? LOL

I work at Ford in PD and bought a competitor's vehicle because ours are overpriced pieces of garbage. Saddest thing I had to do because I can't possibly make a business case to throw my hard earned money away on our product even though they cut my paycheck. I have better business sense than Ford's execs.

@1ifr - Good example of useless paperwork over in IT is that we're still seeing email chains, inevitably followed by a meeting, regarding resolving EHPAS violations on servers in the data center that has already be completely powered down. Boxes are now as secure as a computer can ever be (ie turned off/sc-apped) but someone is still making sure boxes are checked off as "fixed" to justify their own existence

As much as these "additional quality checks" (ie last minute fixes) at launch time look bad (since the REALLY shouldn't be the norm as they've become) in the shorter term, it's still worlds better than shipping out with known issues instead. That results in years and years of bad reputation which is more harmful in the long run. But still, get it XXXXXX together and let the PD & QA experts who actually know what they're doing do the jobs they were hired for without second guessing or overriding them out of ego.

Getting the best in any given field costs top-dollar, but Ford says the want to compete to win while still paying low-dollar for "talent". IMO the fix is to provide good compensation to those providing the best value (combo of quality work and productivity), low compensation for consistently low performers and out the door if they don't get the hint in a reasonable amount of time. And cut out the waste of time process "paperwork" that provides no value and those who are just there there to tick off that "resolved" box (when that's so often not the case)

These botched launches should not come as a surprise. Ford terminated – or demoted and reassigned – large numbers of people with product development and/or launch experience in the so-called Smart Redesign, replacing them with new hires that lacked experience in product development, validation, or launch. The newbs didn't know where the pitfalls were in the Ford processes, so they found them the hard way and the company's quality suffered as a result.

Oh, and it is not a Mustang. Why dilute this iconic name? (btw, one of the first things Alan Mullaly did at Ford was to change the 500 back to the Taurus. )

Still take a Ford over GM? Nice post Mr. Farley. Rest of the public won’t feel the same knowing all the rework required on their new car or truck before delivery. Betting two years before we are forced to merge with another automaker. How’s your German Jim?

Don’t forget the plug in hybrid failure of the Ford Kuga (escape) in Europe.

Batteries would catch fire.

The sad thing is I still take a Ford Product over a GM equivalent.

"Quality checks" really means on-site mods

Of course its a botched launch. We can't launch a vehicle without a ton of quality issues to save our souls. Our execs are narcissistic id–ts and can't keep their hands off a program no matter how hard we try because they want to fiddle every chance they get. Just wait, this is far from the last quality issue. You are a fool to buy any new Ford without it being in production for at least 10mos. The vain fools that bought this thing early deserve what they signed themselves up for. Stupid is as stupid does as you will have a c-ap vehicle while Ford works out all their issues.

Looks like Hendrichs wasn’t the problem BahWah. The botched product launches continue after his departure, F150, Mach E, and soon the Bronco.
