Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Better to be unemployed?

A friend / ex-colleague got laid off last year and still hasn’t found a new job. If I was in her shoes, I know it would be a terrible situation for me and I intended to comfort her, so I was really surprised when I saw that she was not worried at all. Moreover, despite all the existential pressures, she enjoys life more now that she's finally got rid of the stress working at Xerox. I’m glad about that, but it was a little shocking to me. I am also under a lot of stress here, but I still tolerate stress better than unemployment.

Sure if you hate your job and you work for Xerox, lay off is amazing in comparison!

If you don't end up homeless for not working: yeah, quitting a bad job could be a good move.

Let me guess, someone is supporting her.

I feel strongly that for most people (in the US, in 2021) it will be more stressful and generally harder to be unemployed unless your job is truly pushing you to your limit.

As with anything there’s people who will do fine or have a different outlook and hey, they’re better for it, but I’m guessing they’re a small minority.
