Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Foul ways to drive a workers away?

At first I thought I was imagining it because, objectively, I am not a bad worker nor am I causing problems, however, I see that here on the forum someone mentioned that they've had such an experience.

They’re doing everything to make me quit on my own. The pressure is unbearable. I understand why it would be in their favour for some workers to leave on their own, but I can’t believe how imaginative they are in putting pressure on me to quit on my own.

If there are others with a similar feeling, I would love to hear your experiences - in what ways are they trying to drive you away?

Same thing happened to me. I endured. Eventually they decided "my performance wasn't up to standards." Got put on an employee improvement plan. Nothing was good enough. Got let go.
THANK GOD!!!!!!!

So much doom and gloom. I don't think this is unique to UnitedHealth Group though. What would you advise someone applying to UnitedHealth Group from another job making 96K before-tax? Just stay at my 96K job?

My manager is very much one who assumes the worst. They will lash out and attack your character and ethics before asking questions about anything, they love to make things seem worse but go back and repeat that they always have our back. Our workload isn’t totally unbearable; some days it feels like it but their expectations have become grossly unattainable! Especially during a pandemic. We’re getting in trouble for things that are beyond our control. Many in my department have gone from loving to hating our jobs. If we were close with our supes it’s now a strained relationship, they’ve put distance between us. It’s more heartbreaking. Our department used to be pretty close knit and have a healthy amount of competition but now we all just feel defeated.

Sudden micromanaging after years of independence. Being passed over for new projects. Snide remarks, eye rolling, public humiliation in staff meetings (etc.) from manager. Other people getting the vibe (or gossip) from the manager and also thinking they can start treating you poorly. I could see it coming but held out for the severance. Turned out to be worth it but it was a miserable year. I used to love my job and was considered a key contributor but I got a new manager and it all went to heck. Now I have PTSD just thinking about it.

Same tactics used on me until given notice of position eliminated due to RIF. 10 years severance.
