Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

You have to admit Oxy cares about its people

I think a lot of people at Oxy don’t realize how lucky they are. Look around the industry. Exxon is laying off 20% of their Houston office, cut 401(k) matches, and is forcing people to come into the office during the pandemic. ConocoPhillips is doing yet another round of layoffs after acquiring Concho.

Oxy management isn’t perfect, but there’s no denying they take care of employees. Here’s hoping 2021 is a good year.

OMG. You can care about your employees to the ridiculous manner of which oxy does and head the company straight to bankruptcy. Smarter companies are adjusting staffing and expenses now and will survive. Companies don’t owe employees anything but a paycheck for hours worked. They DO owe investor/shareholders a return.

Step 1: destroy the stock price and 401ks
Step 2: cover up s-xual harassment
Step 3: ????
Step 4: profit

Who cares about the employees. It is the common stockholders that are the most important. Bring back the dividend.

I love the support for WFH and sensibility of the decisions to date.

AND Oxy has WAY too many worthless managers, directors and VPs being protected by their buddies. I’ve never seen anything like it. Especially the “inpats”. Why is Vicki allowing this behavior???
Completely erodes any possibility of employee trust in leadership. These guys are SHADY.

Most of these bad comments are probably APC folks and you will never be able to make them happy. Oxy should have let them all go and just paid them off. If done right there would have been some that wanted to stay instead of feeling forced to stay. Deep down there might be a few counting their lucky stars that they have a job that pays them well and health insurance. Exxon is cutting employees with three to four months severance at the most. As well Exxon suspended their 401K match and keep their dividend. Chevron, Conoco, Concho and Noble are cutting as well to name a few. Having a job in these times with benefits is worth a lot more than being out of work spending your cash reserves down. Throw in the fact we get to WFH an extended period and that is icing on the cake. Thing is you will never be able to convince folks that don't want to be here that they have it better.

  1. We can work at home when other companies made their employee to come back
  2. We have more generous lagoff /vsp packages compared those called majors

Why you guys are so greedy? VH is a great person and she cares about her employee. She has her flaws. But who doesn’t?

I bet @2sfz enjoys his silk sheets and not having to pay $2500 per month for COBRA health insurance.

The commenters citing January layoffs as negative evidence are out of their mind. After one of the biggest oil mergers in decades, we had a fairly small layoff that was handled extraordinarily humanely. Everyone cut not only got a very generous package on their way out but also stayed eligible for what turned out to be huge bonus paid after their departure.

You can complain about a lot of things with this company, but they certainly take care of their employees.

Most of the people laid off weren’t on PIPs in January. That’s why they are called layoffs. If they were on PIPs, they would have been terminated.

And from the last time I looked, most managers are still manages and most executives are still executives.

Yes. But how many did Oxy lay-off who were not on a PIP? Also, how many executives were cut?

Oxy was one of the first companies to have layoffs this year. And it was mostly Oxy employees, not the APC guys. Unless we want to sweep that under the rug with everything we’d rather forget.

It’s just a matter of time, and looming deadlines on this debt.

But please, go on hugging your security blanky.

A couple thousand employees have left the company since the acquisition. Why do people keep saying that no one has left, we’re bloated, and need more people laid off?

I agree. Those that stay and complain will always complain. Just leave and let the rest of us that want to be here make things better. You are a drag on this company.

Anyone know what office locations had the employees die of Covid? Has anyone got a you may have been exposed email after being in the office?

The company should be having layoffs. It is way too fat. When they close down businesses there should be layoffs in support people. That apparently doesn’t happen. There are too many levels of management. That too should be trimmed. There are duplicate functions which should be eliminated. There are too many expats and that needs to be addressed. Want more?

Good thing they care about the employees because they sure don’t give a damn about the shareholders.

I don't think I have ever seen a more ignorant or uneducated post on this message board. This has got to be an attempt to antagonize.
