"LOA, taken during this holiday time, gets you out of the rat race that is the understaffed holiday season with its extra long hours, excused from inventory...
So, the question isn't "why would you", but "why wouldn't you"?"

100% and many were so beat down before the holiday season even started. Blamed for everything from lack of sales to lack of staff. All the stress store managers have is being taken out on selling managers. The mental abuse alone is a medical condition. Nobody from a colleague to a captain to a selling manager should be treated/talked to the way we have been for the past year. Enough is Enough.

How about all the sales managers get together and start blaming the Ceo, VPs, regionals, buyers, planners, visual and anyone else making decisions who has shown a lack of care or direction to put us on the right path. It's sick and pathetic. Nobody knows what they are doing so who is there really for help and guidance?

You would think in the midst of a pandemic things would be a lot "lighter". It's been the opposite. None of us need this right now nor do we want it. It's hard enough to get out of bed everyday and go there and then add on going there knowing you'd did not make sales plan the day before and you have to come up with what your going to do different today to achieve goals. And then constant visits and they are having you move merchandise 20 different times thinking that is going to make a difference.

During visits if you practice social distancing with them you get feedback from your store manager that you are cold and distant and off putting. When you are just following their own guidelines set forth during a PANDEMIC to be 6ft apart. And why are they even traveling and why should we be put in danger from someone who just stepped off an airplane?

I really wish I was making this up, it all seems like a nightmare
it is.....everyday......a living nightmare......

  1. Why are so many people on LOA?
  1. See Below
  1. How does going on LOA benefit someone?
  1. If your a salaried executive you have short term disability where you receive full pay and benefits for up to 26 weeks

After 26 weeks if you still had to be on an LOA, you go on long term disability if you have opted for that benefit during annual enrollment. You get 66% of your salary on long term disability.

LOA, taken during this holiday time, gets you out of the rat race that is the understaffed holiday season with its extra long hours, excused from inventory.....oh, and if its for a medical reason, you can get Unemployment benefits the entire time as well. So, the question isn't "why would you", but "why wouldn't you"?

Whatever clues you're getting, I suggest follow them. My store just got a truck that wasn't even a quarter full two weeks before Christmas. I'm being told to toss fixtures we've been using since I have been here ,l which is a long time. If the store isn't closing in a few months, they got an odd way of telling us. This is the time to go with your gut. If the ship seems like it's sinking it's probably because it is.

What has become of this company? I had such a future was on the right path and then bam! Nothing is good enough and “your not doing enough” excuse me?
Managers are exercising all options. I had to call the 800 number about a colleague on LOA I was on hold over an hour. When I got someone on the phone they apologized. I asked her sheepishly why so long? I Was told I wouldn’t believe the amount of people who are out on LOA.
2+2=
This is where managers are going for relief

To the last poster, it's a tactic to make people feel guilty, less than, and a way to devalue your efforts. Lived it for years because your good is never good enough. Its ok when they need a slave and you make sacrifices. I always wonder and forever will ask how many employees have sacrificed families, relationships, and their health for this job only to be cast away like the wasted money and boxes from stock. Hold on, I must keep in mind boxes get recycled and treated like a precious commodity unlike people.
My store manager used her weak power to get rid of colleagues she did NOT care for. They were not called back after the furlough even though they were outstanding workers. Importantly, most were older. These are people who managers were asked to write up and would eventually get rid of without cause. SILENCE IS NOT AN OPTION!!!

the reason for criticizing is to place blame on sales managers and to start the firing process... " its your fault" " you didn't do this right away"" you didnt hire enough associates " " customer complained about you" you see the rhetoric setting up the final talk of a layoff or fired..

I can understand why....this holiday season with fewer managers than ever, we are all just about at the end of our ropes. The stress is crazy and the hours we are expected to work are more than ever. Never do we hear when we do something good, it's always criticism when something goes wrong or we don't get the results that were expected. It's not worth it any longer.

With managers quitting every month there was definitely a root cause. I am sure the store manager blamed everyone else. Zero ethics and people skills.

In my store, we once lost one manager a month until we had no sales managers and only a couple leads left 😂

It is called self preservation.
People teach a point where they know their position is no longer sustainable. The company kept pushing more work on executives with no relief or pay. That as you know makes for a difficult working environment.
Some left when I saw the work of three executives piled onto one position. Not sustainable. No direction. No real plan.
A wise mature worker once told me that when the job is no longer fun, or enjoyable, does not provide satisfaction, than it is time to move on.
