You are correct Renton was always in the top selling stores in the whole company, up until they stopped giving the store the products. The vendors they messed up with they messed up across the board.

The reason they dont/didnt change up when they could have been making bank for over a year now with Covid19 and stay at home products being huge is the best question. The almost certain answer is they did not see a need to go from their new safety net model of not actually owning all the product in their store because they already are all-in on shutting down existing Frys stores to start another Frys brothers project. As evidenced by the fact the Renton project actually was in the works way long ago we all just didnt know it until some journalist dug into public records and found a juicy piece of newsworthy info lying about. Frys Facebook also suddenly changed to reflect this only after a top executive was informed of the news article, so that was just damage control he knew all along.

So the answers are right in front of everyone now. They dont intend to keep any of the stores, especially knowing they had no intention on keeping even the ones that made them most of their money. The Frys brothers are rich dudes, plain and simple. Did anyone expect them to be any better or have more smarts then Paris Hilton? Rich and clueless goes hand-in-hand. These guys have millions to blow, unlike us normal people. Frys also had a 4th person who wasn't a Frys brother when it first started. Thats who made it successful, and ironically they retired in 2018 and look at Frys after while the two brothers fumbled to control it. I.e. Frys brothers are just money. Its on to the next project for them.

Some guy on twitter was asking for a 'Source' when I told him the Renton Fry's is going to close and become apartments. I don't respond to people that can find the source with a simple Google search. The link to the article is at the top of the list if you google Renton Fry's closing. So dude, if you're reading this.... here is your source. Microcenter is NOT going to occupy the Renton Fry's location and that's that.

Although I'm a bit baffled because the Renton Fry's was always sold out on high demand items and from what I could see the Renton Fry's performed rather well. I remember back in 2017, Fry's had a decent stock of Rampage VI Apex motherboards so I bought one to upgrade my old x79 Rampage IV Extreme system. The board ended up being defective so I returned it the next day. They were out of stock so I had to return the board and buy another from the Egg which worked. Or back in 2011-2012 if you wanted a decent graphics card from Fry's then you had to get one before Saturday. On Sunday all the good cards were out of stock and they didn't restock until around Wednesday.

As far as I'm concerned, Fry's missed the boat because PC parts and laptops have gained popularity as Fry's stock issues have been getting worse. They really missed the boat with the Pandemic Hardware Grab. I don't know how many times I went into Fry's to buy something like a CPU, GPU, or Power Supply and they didn't have the one I wanted in stock.

The worst part is the Governor Tax-Man Inslee passed a law that requires people to pay sales tax on online purchases. Back in the past I used to buy almost all the parts to my builds at newegg because sometimes I could save $150-200 when sales tax and combo deals were considered. Now I don't have that luxury because newegg's combo deals have become weak and I have to pay sales tax on my newegg purchases. I built my Brother a PC back in 2012 with a $1400 budget. At newegg I was able to swing an i7-3770k and a GTX 670 whereas the same budget at Fry's got me an i7-3770k and a GTX 660ti. Now, Fry's is on a level playing field with amazon and newegg so I don't know what they're excuse is. I don't know why they weren't able to pay their vendors.
