IBM Acquires Expertus Technologies Inc. to Expand Hybrid Cloud Digital Payment Solutions

Expertus is now part of IBM Global Business Services, following its previous successful alliance with IBM Payments Center Canada. IBM will consolidate Expertus' Payments Platform as a Service offering and build on SWIFT processing services and capabilities, which enable a global network of 11,000 financial institutions in more than 200 countries to send and receive information about financial transactions.

@tlg there has been 4 years of constant hiring and investment in some parts of GBS, such as DSiX. Commodity outsourcing work in GBS has steadily declined but actual consulting work has grown. Just that it’s not enough to fill the gap left by declining commodity outsourcing work. Now this fin tech acquisition has no apparent synergy to anything we have been doing in GBS. It would be better placed under the C&CS portfolio. So this says either GBS is going to be transformed or it’s a sign that C&CS is going to be carved up. Given that GBS is now the biggest BU and IBM loves to treat their cash cow like garbage (ahem, GTS?) we think it only means bad news for GBS.
