Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Overtime for a whole year

Is it normal / acceptable for companies to be requiring mandatory overtime from 45-55 hours per week? Why not hire more people? The burnout is real and the Rph profession is going to sh*t. PBM is becoming retail.

RN with CSP program.
Well, so far this month alone, 4 nurses have quit.
They pulled 18 of our 29 remaining nurses to other teams. The rest of us are the red headed stepchildren of the program.
This is posturing for a layoff. I’m actively looking elsewhere so I don’t end up jobless in the middle of COVID. Several others in the team are doing the same. We’re all miserable anyway.

You’ll never meet their goals/metrics. It was a rigged capitalistic game

RN in case management here.
Working no less than 9 hrs a day, usually more like 10.... salaried of course.
And we still can’t meet their frigggin metrics and lofty goals.

Pretty common in some industries. Hopefully you are getting paid but UHG specifically tries not to give ot for hourly employees if possible.

Execs making millions (from where....hmmm.) to cut every penny by profiteering off of the sick and infirm. Sounds like US capitalism, for profit shareholder stock market “health” “care”

They know it is Covid.
They know jobs are scarce
They know you will work

Work all day. Work all night. Work on holiday. Work on Vacation. Then get laid off.

You really do not understand who you are dealing with. The top folks are in a different world than you. They are paid millions to maximize stock price. They are the special upper class. They see themselves as superior to you. Corrupted by wealth and greed but at the mercy of the shareholders. When the shareholder demands a higher return, they are paid to cut every penny. If they dont cut, they will be replaced with someone that will cut.

Many employees ask why. There is no why. It is a game. Learn to play and win or suffer and lose.

No and there are no laws against it either. They can claim that they don't have enough "qualified" employees to maintain their business. At the same rate they're laying off people. Corporation do as they will and everyone just turns a blind eye. But just wait its catching up with them. This Corporation is slowly falling behind the new innovative competitors. They're losing more contracts by the day.

That's why that corporation was a revolving door. Folks constantly coming and going. Do bare minimum then leave. Or better yet, get laid off to collect. Bleep em. corporate greed, hustling, and profit obscessed whack jobs

Optum is famous for this. You either leave, get your life back and your Rph license off the line or you accept corporate greed at its finest.

Look for another job. Know someone that did the work of two for almost 2 years. Company finally hired someone to assist in the work load and the SME was let go. Lol. Do not trust this company.

Salaried employee here and my team averages 40-45 hours per week in a typical year. This year it was 45-50 due to COVID and other things and I’ve worked a lot of 60 hour weeks.

It’s not sustainable.
It’s not normal.
It’s not acceptable.

But I don’t see those norms changing for Optum anytime soon. It’s all about cost containment. They will squeeze whatever they can out of you, you’ll have to set your own limits about what you’ll tolerate. I’m actively looking to leave....
