This method has zero regard for the companies future. Any other big company
in the US including Walmart, KFC, CIRCLE K etc offers buyouts to the older people in order to keep the younger people. With zero management being cut. It almost has to mean they are gonna give the locomotive, track and car repair to an outside source. Buyouts now save them 100x the money in the future plus cuts payroll now but obviously that’s not the end game here. The future of it isn’t in their plans so they simply don’t care. They know 60% won’t come back if needed and that’s what they want.

UP has laid off over 18,000. I know, I'm a former employee that left because of the extra workload put on me. Sorry man. I'm not wrapping a 118 car train by myself in -20 degrees.
NS is doing similar to what Conrail done. The only real difference is that payroll protection has helped them prolong things. Hey let’s use the money for stock buybacks, prolong the lay-offs. Now we need to dump the workers and let it grind down. In the end they will let another company take over the donkey. Rich want to get richer..

We all know that this is nothing more than a quick pump and dump get rich quick siphon all you can then leave scam.
The railroad has always been a slow growth, long term investment due to the simple fact that it’s a high capitol investment business. They think they are smarter than simple physics and are trying to turn it in to a get rich quick scheme. Definitely not a good long term strategy for this kind of business.
UP, CSX & BNSF have called people back not laid off more. Zero cuts to management must mean they will be the NS eyes on the contract work and that’s why they are still hiring them. Juniata was spared only because of winter. Their day is coming and it won’t be 35 people. The old farts left may get a trickle of a buyout if they don’t die first because of the work load fixing to hit them. Sad Sad Sad
