Google owning Neverware (Cloudready) means any PC would be able to install Chrome OS as an officially Google-supported OS on any PC, not just Chromebooks and Chrometops.

This slimmed-down OS would be much less resource intensive than Windows and much more consumer-friendly than Linux.
Much if not all engineering work is done over remote desktop VNC sessions on compute servers anyway (in SC it's all those servers in SC11 if I recall correctly. I haven't seen anyone in SC do CAD work on actual in-office workstations for years). Even engineering firms would need less upgrades if enterprises adopt a Chome OS / Cloudready derivative. I bet business will, just for the hardware money saving alone.
Future trends all point to x86 cashcow drying up for Intel. It's not a matter of dealing with lack of growth and being a "growth company" for stock holders. It's more like stopping the inevitable hemorrhaging on all fronts. Intel is either ending up in ICU or the terminal ward- Choose one.
