Can you get your bonus if you finish the year but quit after performance reviews in January? What is the earliest you can quit and still collect your earned bonus?

I thought you had to be employed at time of payout, unless you were laid off prior, then you are typically paid a pro rated portion of the bonus at 100%.
fwiw I quit on 2/28 and was paid my bonus; I believe it must be announced before you leave to be entitled to it but I'm not completely sure.
