Bank Industry question

How would you compare working for large banks like JPMorgan with working for smaller banks ? Pros and Cons ?

Like most places, JPMC is what you make it. The bar is set so low that you can be promoted every year or so by just working hard and, incredibly, just calling people back. If you work there you can basically just pick any job two levels up and get there in three years or less. Nobody is really motivated anymore so showing any self growth/motivation will get you promoted faster than you'd expect.

@atmk+18uqv6gd, I can relate to your situation I had horrific anxiety too. Wonder why they like bullying and harassment tactics in the banking industries? The other one's know they cant do these things

I worked at JPM and honestly it was hell. I got the oh you work for jpm, Thad’s great by friends and family....

However, inside it was a total sh–show, filled with some insane politics, backstabbing, racism and a horrible manager. The work product was just to get sh– done without any consideration on quality or meaningfulness.

It got so bad that at my year end review, they changed my ratings multiple times to build a case.

What I got from all this was health issues, anxiety and made me a horrible human where I would yell at everyone. When I asked for help, they referred me to a 1-800 number.

Fast forward, I am in a smaller bank, happier, respected for what I bring to the table, good work life balance and I continue to grow and learn everyday.

It’s all relative at the end of the day. Ymmv. Good luck.

Bigger doesn’t mean better. Unless you wanna tell your friends and family where you work so they can be proud of you but that’s about it.

My comp (base and bonus) was significantly higher at JPMC. So we're some other benefits like vacation and maternity leave.
