Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Digital sales up 84%

With online sales up by a large margin for the quarter I think we're seeing the writing on the wall for brick-and-mortar stores. People have gotten too used to online shopping and while things might shift slightly back once the COVID-19 threat is gone, it will not be enough to keep brick-and-mortar stores viable. I'd start looking for a new job right now if I worked there...

: @3klr+18wHgEQ6 - your tone does not belong in this FORUM. it’s clear that you don’t get sarcasm. Of course there will be some brick and mortar stores after the carnage, not as many as before, or one day the malls will come back alive LOL

Glad to hear the MLK store does a lot of good in the community, it would be nice to get a list of all their good deeds from you.

BTW, it is easy to place you with the rotten bully culture at Nike, a “wonna” be seen to be knowledgeable, can’t stand dissent type person... because those with differing opinions from you are idi-tic ?

The “MLK” store has nothing to do with people spending their “whole paychecks” and comparing it to LO is id–tic. Considering you work for Nike you should really look into the community stores. They do a lot of good.

Also if you think all brick and mortar stores are closing you should figure out what a loss leader is.

Corporate greed and do what wall street wants is very much alive at Nike.

They announced in the earnings call they are opening 30 more brick and mortar stores in 2021.

At least one brick and mortar store will survive the carnage, the slow death March of retail stores. It’s the Nike MLK “community” store. Designed for certain folks to spend their “whole” paychecks on Nike products. You don’t believe it? Why is that store not located in Lake Oswego? Target consumers I would say....That said, Nike is now E-commerce focused , factory direct, cutting middlemen jobs and most who propelled it to greatness

I'm sure part of those sales numbers are up because Nike defrauds consumers by reducing full refunds by the tax. I ordered online and Nike shipped a defective product so I returned it and discovered they will only refund the cost of the product and not the tax. How do they account for the tax of a returned product? In "other" revenue?

Yeah, the days of hundreds of Nike-owned retail shops will go the way of dinosaurs. Instead we’ll have a much smaller number of “differentiated” retail stores like the Melrose store in LA. These stores will serve & feed the digital business and vice-versa.

It’s ALL about digital these days.

That said I would guess that most Nike retail workers are not “career” retail workers. They’re mostly younger people who, like many of us, worked in retail while going to school or while otherwise creating another career plan outside of retail. Most of those lost jobs won’t be missed.
