Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Can someone from corporate tell us how many more days until we close for good?

Practically no one is shopping and I don't know how we even make payroll. I wouldn't be surprised if some of us are laid off before New Years at this rate.

Well, I am a manager and I can tell you if you haven't been looking for something else, you better start fast because you will be in for a shock.

I have a good mgr. He told us to look out for ourselves and find something soon.

I also recall learning when the NYC BN, that had both a textbook store & Used Book buyback, closed for good several years ago. No one told the employees they had lost their jobs until a meeting was called at the end of the day shift.

The store you mention was the flagship store, aka the textbook store. It was on 18th street and 5th avenue. However, most of the workers weren't told at all about the store closing. Many of them showed up for work to find a message on the building saying the location had closed, and to call a number to find out what to do next. That's how much Barnes cares about people.

I understand that you would want to know this and make some kind of preparations, or you’d appreciate transparency around what’s going on. However, when has BN ever been that way? I was told I’d get called back, from being on furlough, by both my DM & SM! They told me this multiple times over the phone. They lied.

That’s effed up, but that’s how BN does it.
