Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

No use in stressing ahead of time

Guys, here's the deal. Posts here can be useful after layoffs have happened to assess the damage when org charts aren't being provided. But beforehand, nothing on this forum is reliable. IF layoffs happen, which I tend to think they will, worrying about them won't do much good. Based on how the last round went, with Tier 1-2 ICs getting axed or transferred, nobody is safe.

I suspect we're all already doing this stuff, but right now you should be:
1) Doing your job. It's simple, do what you're asked and don't complain. Be sure your boss (and director and RVP) know what you're doing. You don't need to be annoying about it but now is the time to be visible. Send your boss a weekly update if they're asking for it. Hopefully, you've been doing this since March. Visibility, not competency, will likely decided who stays and who goes.
2) Looking for a better job. This should be happening all the time, layoffs or not. Figure out what skills are being hired right now. Start thinking about you would do if you were laid off.
3) Removing personal files from network and taking home anything important / sentimental from the office. Do not rely on your admin to get your stuff to you.
4) Refreshing your skills on the clock. Fact: This year has been slow for everybody. Anyone who tells you how busy there are is either straight up lying or just plain dumb. Rather than sitting on your thumbs at the house, take a free online course or refresh a current skill that may be stale or attend a free industry meeting. There has been a ton of free stuff this year around employee development available through SPE, coursera, etc.
5) Saving your money. Do not buy a PS5. Lexus December to Remember? Not for you. Stay home, learn to cook and save that cash!!!

Sorry for the long post. Stressing out over the holidays won't help anybody. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

What’s the word? Lots of rumblings a few weeks ago and now nothing.

Are the recent legal and planning resignations up top part of something bigger?

Calm down now. We all know about your promotions. We see how wisely you spend all your money on pleated khakis and square toed boots. When will you realize how stupid you look?

If I was dumb enough to delegate to complainers like you, I would not have been promoted three times in the last five years. I cannot believe you take a paycheck because you probably spend your entire day on this site and Facebook.

@ Reputable Source - How do you know that AND what else do you know?

Bonuses were honestly the furthest thing from my mind this year until LT went through in detail the revised bonus targets, etc as part of one of the leadership broadcasts. Remember all the hoopla around no individual performance ratings? I'm not saying it makes sense, but why the charade of talking bonuses if no intent to pay?

Coming into the new year, things just feel unsettled and honestly kind of icky.

It’s absurd when people make comments about the people on this site... they are complainers lazy etc etc etc... if that’s the case what the heck are you all doing on this site if you don’t believe any of the content has merit?

Honestly..... start applying for
Jobs now.

Maybe you won’t find one but maybe you will and it’ll be better than what you have at MRO.

Either way at least if layoffs do occur you’ll be one step ahead.

To the people who accuse us of as being lazy complainers - you must be the middle man/woman that in actuality doesn’t do anything besides delegate.

If the geniuses and complainers that posted on this site ran the company, it would have been bankrupt and out of business years ago

I really wish you guys would stop freaking out! There will be no layoffs, at least during the first quarter of this year. Chill out and stop getting so worked up with all the rumors.

I don't need the CEO to be my friend or even acknowledge my existence. Heck, buy all the cars and make all weird youtube videos you want. I really don't care. Just please, for the love of god, keep the company afloat and take care of us peon employees!

I will be very upset if they lay people off and then pay bonuses a month later to the survivors.

That video is so surreal to see!!!
Wondering why it makes sense to have such a video on UTube while so many are suffering through this pandemic....layoffs...
Pathetic.....I hope some of those vehicles are sold for a good cause, extending the layoff employees from April who are still struggling to find work

How many times has Lee been on your floor or visited your department? He only cares about himself. Go watch his YouTube video begging for a stupid Ford GT. Fitting the music in his video is Nickleback. That dude needs to have some self awareness. He won’t even allow others to ride the elevator with him. He’s a king douche.

I too agree with the previous post about 41.

I hope this company does me a favor and pays me to leave. I have seen them treat long time employees and retirees too bad for me to every want to stay here long term. Not sure how anyone with a clear conscience can say otherwise. This company is a giant t–d covered in burnt hair. Look at excom, big boss who loves to race cars has to be driven into work. His right hand man has a truck that cost more than any of our houses ever will and drives like a maniac. It’s just a matter of time before he smashes into someone on his lunch break and cost us millions. P Dubs comes in stoned from his last rock band gig most Mondays and tries to cover it up with the terrible acquisitions he makes. Those showers on 41 are used for things you don’t want to know about. I officed up there for a short time and heard things that no person should ever have to hear at work. Oh and let’s talk about MRO stock, sale sale sale sale. This giant t–d bucket has no lid and eventually the smell will seep out.

For those who "know", give us some dates and numbers to be cut. What could it possible hurt to share some details?

I've only seen one prediction on this board actually come true.

See that employees are so stressed out by the company that they spend Christmas break looking at this site instead of enjoying their holidays.
