Hiring train crew at north platte

So UP went from hiring for nothing to hiring for everything. Does this mean all the people in north platte that were laid off are going to get called back or they just want to hire some more and lay them off after training is over as well?

I think the point trying to be made here is how many people would go back and deal with the BS at the UP for $30$/hr? Not everyone that quits the UP automatically goes to a $15/hr job with no benefits. I really dont know of too many places that don't offer benefits now. Theres quite a few places that are offering competitive wages, for much less stress. Some places do pay lower wages, but for some the wage decrease is a small price to pay for not having to deal with the UP anymore. Don't assume people are quitting to go to lower paying jobs. I left the UP and do make more now. I only wish I would've done it sooner.

So people have been quiting a 33 dollar an hour job with benefits from north platte? Must be alot of high paying jobs out there. Probably going to companies that dont treat you like sh–.

So scab shop folks will work for less is that what your saying? Can’t find people to work for $30 hr plus benefits but if you pay them $15 hr and no benefits they will come? I don’t think so. Think about how silly that sounds. I’m from North Platte and I know for a fact people would quit before they were paid any less under the current working conditions. They have been quitting in droves the last year.

It's all part of their plan. Once they cant hire anyone the unions dont have a leg to stand on once the work is contracted out to scab shops

I received a call to go back a couple of days ago. Yeah I didn't go back. I will never go back there. I was laid off after 17 years. The UP managers are useless as they get. I truly wish the UP good luck in finding people to work for them.

There have been too many people burned by UP recently as new hires that left a decent job to go with what they thought was a promising career at the railroad. These people were quickly laid off after training and the lucky ones were able to return to their previous jobs. Some had to find new ones. Make no mistake about it these people tell their friends and coworkers about the cluster f that UP has become. People are always looking to better themselves but no one is going to leave a job to go to UP with the way they are laying off.

Last hiring bonus couldn’t attract anyone. I wonder what promises will be made to the potential new hires this time. With being the #1 worst company to work for I’m sure only the cream of the crops will apply.

I'll make an educated guess at this one! My guess is that they're most likely hiring to fill the gaps left by the people they thought would come back when called to. There stupid efficiency plan didn't account for the people that wouldn't come back. You can't layoff thousands of people, and realistically expect them to come back after what they did to them. Now the argument of whether or not the people they do hire get laid off after training is for another day.
