Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Major layoffs after February?

People are talking about major layoffs coming after February, is this true? Where's the info coming from? I'd like to avoid unnecessary stressing if somebody is just guessing or even worse, trolling. Working at Optum is stressful enough on a regular day as it is...

That's what happens. One of the only "countries" in the world with only at will employment–they can fire you at any time, with OR without any cause. You're NOTHING to them. Enjoy the us. Simpology

confirmed it is happening. In case you think about jumping ship to another healthplan, they are all going to restructure to offset Covid costs over the next few months. I probably be gone next week since they force me to cross train some other folks. As the budgeting guy said to me about the fact I going to lose my job, he said sure looks like so. He forecasts payroll costs so he knows.

Many ft teammates didn’t get any severance. Nothing is guaranteed. There are very few laws to protect American employees in the corporate controlled state

Never talk to HR or the police—it always ends badly.

If this statement were true, most of management would be out the door. Half of the sh!t they pull is illegal and some deserve to be thrown in prison. The only thing you said that I agree with is to skill up and move on. Staying in a toxic environment like Optum isn't worth it. Receiving a severance payment from being laid off is absolutely not guaranteed.

There are always going to be layoffs. I swear every month someone has heard “something” on here. Just do your job or go get a job elsewhere. Sometimes layoffs are the only way to get rid of toxic employees you can’t just fire. I’m sorry if you are one of the good ones that lost your job, been there, but for the love of all that is good in the world - move on with your life!

No official confirmation but the signs are all there.

My department has spent the last 2-3 weeks responding to repeated reporting inquiries from finance and consultants.

There’s nothing any of us can do to change the outcome, ride it out or start aggressively job hunting.

"MOVE"= Termination. Are the employees that blind to reality and truths about corporate America?

MOVE stands for “Modernizing Operating Value for Everyone.” MOVE is a UHG-wide initiative designed to transform the way we do business and, as a result, reduce UHG’s net operating costs by 15% during the 2018 to 2021 timeframe.

Are people just blind. They are openly telling employees with this initiative lol. They want to make up for whatever they didn't cut the last three years. We are talking 8 figure type reductions. Lots of people who make good money are going to be cut in the next couple of months.

Technically, if Optum is doing well there should be no layoffs. But I do not make the choices here.

And Wednesday's results were slightly better than the guidance UnitedHealth presented during its December investor day. Higher earnings in Optum drove much of the upside, but UnitedHealthcare also contributed, analysts said. However, net income declined as care patterns normalized and COVID-19 costs rose, along with rebates from the reinstatement of the health insurance tax.
